    Happy Yule to you all.

    Tacky I know but I mean it. Gave She Who Must be Obeyed and our Daughter a gift of Silver Jewelery this morning. Baked Fresh Loaves this afternoon, then froze my cute Ogreish Buns off this evening. Stood in my sacred space, torches lit and celebrating with fresh bread and mead and shivering . Now all closed down except for one candle to see the night through.

      By gum Ogre, it's been nithering out there!!! :blink:

      But I guess an Ogre's gotta do what an Ogre's gotta do!!

      I always thought the 23rd was the shortest day and have a long running row with my OH - he thinks it's the 21st, so now I know we should split the difference and it's the 22nd!!! :lol:

      Happy Yule to you and yours from me & mine :thumbs:

        Thought I'd do a search for "shortest day" and this is what I found:

        The Shortest Day

        And so the Shortest Day came and the year died

        And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world

        Came people singing, dancing,

        To drive the dark away.

        They lighted candles in the winter trees;

        They hung their homes with evergreen;

        They burned beseeching fires all night long

        To keep the year alive.

        And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake

        They shouted, revelling.

        Through all the frosty ages you can hear them

        Echoing behind us - listen!

        All the long echoes, sing the same delight,

        This Shortest Day,

        As promise wakens in the sleeping land:

        They carol, feast, give thanks,

        And dearly love their friends,

        And hope for peace.

        And now so do we, here, now,

        This year and every year.

        Welcome Yule!

        Oh, and this year the shortest day is (was) 22nd December. It would appear that it varies a bit usually 21 or 22.
