  • AOL useless Spam Filter

Grrr .... it started as one piece of spam per week.

AOL has a button called 'report spam'. You select the spam message in your 'in box' and click it. I presume it is supposed to inform them of the spammer so they can take action.

I've been clicking this button for weeks now with no effect.

In fact I'm now getting 3-4 pieces of spam a DAY now! All a variant on the same theme.

    Why are AOL so useless?

    Rant rant ...

    FF
Howard:"You wanna be careful, before you know it you'll wake up in a bush singing songs about brooms"

Vince:"You don't know anything about me. Do you know anything about me?"

    Howard:"I know...of you"

Vince:"Yeah, well, if you knew me you'd know that I don't sing songs about brooms...I sing songs about love...

    Lovely lady with the eye

    Lovely lady with the eye

You've only got one but it's a good one

Lovely lady with the eye, the eye, the eye, the eye, the eye

coming forward on a string, thats not normal, urgh

    Yeah! I'm in a band..."

The AOL spam filter is rubbish. And the AOL pop-up filter is even worse! It only ever stops pop-us that you want and leaves other pop-up to do what they want.

And have you ever noticed that the AOL pop-up filter never seems to blcok AOL pop-up adverts?

I'm not sure how much of the stuff mentioned will work with AOL which seems to take over your machine - I dumped it years ago. Having said that you need to be aware that stopping spam is virtually impossible.

I know what you mean by "all a variant on the same theme" So listen here all you spammers, I don't wish to brag but:

            1. I do not need viagra

            2. There is no part of my person to which I wish to add extra inches!

            Is that clear

              Broadband ISP

I use NTL - a bit of a drag getting it installed but once that was done it's been fine. I also get my telephone and TV from the same source - of course you need to be in a cabled area ...

The worst thing about spammers is the way they 'spoof' email addresses to hide their tracks. Its difficult to track down which server the message came from and inform the ISP that they are hosting a spammer.

AOL is nowhere near as bad as Telepest. Now there is a truly useless service!

For all the faults of AOL, I'd never go back to Telepest!

As regards spam, I get between 60 to 100 every day at work!

I get emails telling me how to add hair, remove hair, add inches to various parts and how to send my money to a PO Box number in Fort Worth or Duluth.
