SUBJECT: Neighbours From Hell in Britain: March 2003 Newsletter
Welcome to the first Neighbours From Hell in Britain newsletter.
To start I would like to thank you for your interest in the web site and for signing up to receive this newsletter.
Many of you will already be members of the forum board and will know what a down to earth and friendly group we are; we would warmly welcome anybody who would like to join at http://www.nfh.org.uk/forums/index.php
The board now has over 110 members! It seems like only yesterday when we opened the doors for the first time on the new site back in October 2002!
New beginnings
A big "good luck" to our members who are in process of selling their houses; we wish you lots of peace in your new homes. For members stories please see the forum board at http://www.nfh.org.uk/forums/index.php
It is a shame that sometimes we feel forced out of our homes by 'NFH' (Neighbour From Hell), but to new beginnings everybody!
Dogs
A lot of people are having trouble with dogs barking at the minute so I thought I would pen a few lines on this subject.
"Did you know that dogs can communicate by using ten different types of sound, ranging from whimpering to growling?"
A big thank you to Mr. David Appleby for giving us kind permission to reproduce some of his work from "Barking Mad" you can find this on:
http://www.nfh.org.uk/resources/Articles/barking_mad.htm (Resources Section).
The article makes interesting reading and although the dogs wont stop barking if you read it to them, it gives us a better picture of why they bark.
You could even print it out and stick it through next door's letter box!
But seriously, it is not funny when you are on the receiving end of such noise. My NFH dog's record was a 7 hour howl!
Our advice as always to start with, would be.....talk to your neighbour, they may not realise their dog(s) make any noise when they are out or may not know the dog(s) can be heard through the walls. As many of us know different pitches of noise can penetrate the thickest of walls!
Please visit the forum board for any further advice; we will always try to help.
One of our members has a theory that NFH dogs can look like and have the same personality as their owner NFH's! Any views on this would be gratefully received, but this leaves the question.....does your dog look like you?
E-mail me and let me know at admin@nfh.org.uk
Any other comments or articles please send to the same address.
NFH awareness
NFH's have had a fair bit of publicity recently, it seems that others are realising that there is a problem; even Kilroy did a programme on 'Neighbours at War' at the end of February.
Val Weedon, A friend of NFH in Britain, who is involved with "UK noise abuse", is working very hard to get politicians to listen to the victims of this sort of abuse, a meeting is to take place very soon. April 30th is International Noise Awareness day. We will let you know when we have more details.
Val's web sites are:
'The Noise Network' at http://www.superscript.co.uk/tnn/
and 'United Kingdom Noise Association' at http://www.superscript.co.uk/ukna/index.html
On June the 4th it is Noise Action Day, hopefully NFH in Britain will be involved in this, and again we will keep you informed.
It is important that we keep up the pressure with our politicians at all levels to ensure policies on dealing with NFH's are changed to utilise a much quicker process.
Please invite your local councillors and MP's to visit the NFH web site so they can see for themselves the severity of the problem. We can see from our members "Where are You" thread, that the problem is nation wide (we also have a couple of overseas members!).
Chat
We have been successfully running a chat session every Sunday night at 8pm, everyone is welcome, we talk about all sorts of things not just NFH's, sometimes we all need a break from "them". Please come and join us. You will need to register with chat first, it is free and you only have to pay for your own drinks!
Please come and visit chat here: http://www.nfh.org.uk/chat/chat.php
Well that's about all for now, please visit the site often and good luck and peace to you all.
