Neighbours From Hell in Britain - Newsletter: October 2003 (HTML Version)

Hello everyone, and welcome to the October edition of the NFHiB newsletter.

Membership

A big warm welcome to our newer members, the number of members has now risen to 680.

Won't be long before we reach 4 figures at this rate!

Autumnal Weather

October is here and the weather has already turned a little colder in what ever part of the country you are in.

Time to get the garden ready for winter and bring in some of those less hardy plants!

What else does October bring?

Ah yes, the dreaded trick or treaters and the penny for a guy kids, yes it does seem to get earlier each year.

As Halloween is fast approaching, I think about what kind of tricks I might be on the receiving end of if I do not have enough sweets for the little darlings!

One thing I do is to tape up the letter box so I do not have any undesirables land on my carpet, we make sure the car is visible from the house and move anything from the garden that can be moved.

Things have a habit of going missing shall we say, at this time of year.

So are the kids of the neighbourhood getting worse with their tricks? I do not know, but I do understand that some unscrupulous NFH will play tricks on you and hope the children get the blame.

It never hurts to be prepared.

Fireworks

Fireworks have already started with a vengeance and have been driving me insane for the last few weeks. Where are the noise makers getting them from? The ones going off here sound like display air bombs.

This months spotlight issue will be focusing on fireworks.

Find the Spotlight Issue for Fireworks within the next week.

Also NFHiB are running a new poll on the main web site about your views on fireworks and this can be seen on the front page.

Please take a minute to vote.

Some of the members of NFHiB are so frustrated will the illegal sale of fireworks to nincompoops who set them off in the street, they have vowed to report any illegal sales to the trading standards. You must contact the trading standards in your own area; you will find them through any of the internet search engines.

Or, take a look at 'Trading Standards Central'.

Firework noise is yet another noise we have no control over. So if you have had enough, please let us know, members are able to post their views in Ranters Corner.

Please remember to keep your pets safe at this time of year as well.

Polls

The results of last month's poll are here:

Birthday Greetings, bottle of...

Talking about what else October brings - Well it is our first birthday! Yes, we have really been going a full year!

In that time we have had:

- 689 members

- 24,300 posts

- 2,494 topics

New forum areas have been added, new chat features and functions, sponsorship and new moderators/topic leaders; you just never know what else is going to be added! That does not include all the new articles on the main site!

To celebrate, we are having birthday drinks in Leeds, members only I am afraid. If you are a member and would like to join us, please PM (Private Message) me through the forum board and I will give you the details of the time and location.

I am looking forward to meeting some of you in real life!

The new chat feature has now been released after a long wait, it is called 'Who is in Chat?', and shows at the bottom of the forum main welcome screen. It means members can now see who is in chat before they go in themselves, this has put an end to members sitting in chat on their own waiting for some one to join them for a gossip! This function is refreshed every 10 minutes, so you only need to sit in chat for a maximum of ten minutes before hopefully another member joins you!

Another new feature I mentioned was the sponsorship; as you all know NFHiB is run by the members who are all volunteers and at this point we receive no funding. We are trying to raise monies for the up keep of the site through sponsorship banners.

Anyone can sponsor the site, whether personal or business interest and the sponsorship is at very reasonable rates for 3 month periods or longer.

Find out all about sponsorship options from these pages.

Thousands of visitors will see your banner every week. Please contact us if you are interested or you have a friend who might be.

A big thank you to all those who have already sponsored us, it really does help to make a difference!

Book Reviews

NFHiB will shortly be sharing some book reviews with you, we have kindly been given 2 law books by Mr AW Barsby, who is a barrister and author and has his own website. The books look very good and describe some of the law for those suffering with NFH problems, please look out for the reviews as they will be coming soon.

Well I hope to see some of you very soon in person and maybe I will tell you about our party in the November edition!

As always, please e-mail us with any content or ideas you may have for future NFHiB Newsletters.

Take care and stay safe,

Neighbours From Hell in Britain
