May 2003

Hello again and welcome to the May edition of the Neighbours From Hell in Britain newsletter.

So what’s been happening?

Neighbours From Hell in Britain Forum Board

Firstly I would like to thank Hollygolightly for agreeing to become a forum moderator. Thanks Holly!

The very active NFH in Britain forum board is full of useful information, advice, support and help. The NFH in Britain membership is now up to 214 members!

There's a lot of very different stories and situations, so please come and catch up with everyone if you haven’t visited recently. As you can imagine, so many members also means more support and points of view. If you need some advice, please come and register to become a member and take full advantage of the collective pot of knowledge we now have on hand!

Woman Magazine

The biggest publicity we have had this month was a two page feature in “Woman” magazine. It gave readers a few tips on how to handle a NFH situation and some of our member’s stories were featured (these were anonymised).

The best thing of course was the website address that was included into the feature. We would like to welcome everyone who has contacted us and joined the board through this magazine article and of course everyone else who has also joined the forum board through other methods of contact.

NFH Informal Poll

Our first online mini poll has reached its target of asking 100 people their views. Well what a surprise…the top problem came back as Noise!

Question was: Which is your WORST Neighbour From Hell problem? (Pick 1)

(Choice and percentage results in order follow):

Noise (e.g. Loud Music/Neighbour Arguments) = 34%
Harassment/Bullying = 22%
Children/Young People Problems = 12%
Boundary Problems = 8%
Other = 7%
Car Parking Issues = 6%
Rubbish/Litter = 6%
Animal Disturbance (e.g. Pets/Dogs) = 3%
Rights of Way Issue = 1%
General Crime = 1%

(Votes: 100)

The new poll is under way on the main web site, this time we would like to know how helpful your Local Authority has been with your own situation. Access this from the left hand side of the NFH in Britain front page.

Any ideas for future polls, please let us know. All suggestions greatly received!

Ongoing National NFH Survey

The 2 minute national survey is still going strong, as soon as we have received 100+ completed surveys, we will work out the percentages of peoples answers and any other statistical data. Have you filled one in yet? Please take a look and fill in your details if you haven’t already.

(You can access the survey directly).

National Noise Action Day

Next month is Noise Action day.

The National Society for Clean Air and Environmental Protection (NSCA) says: “On Noise Action Day 2003 at least 200 organisations activities around the UK will be plugging peace and quiet. Loud music and barking dogs are a widespread problem – along with alarms and fireworks. These and other noises affect the quality of life of all of us.

"On Wednesday June 4th we are encouraging everyone to take a quiet moment to consider the noise that affects them and the noise that they make. “We are all affected by noise – at home, at work and at study” said Mary Stevens, NAD co-ordinator. “With a little care and consideration everyone can help to reduce the impact noise has on our neighbours’ quality of life”.

The above has been taken from a NAD press release; please see the full press release on the forum board!

Neighbours from Hell in Britain supports National Noise Awareness day 100%!

New Live Chat Program

A new live chat program has just been added to NFH in Britain. The chat is now faster and a lot more fun, you have to hear the sound effects to believe it! The new chat is so much easier to use, all you need is the same name and password you use for the forum board.

Chat sessions are still on a Tuesday and Sunday night from 8pm till very late, chat about what you like!

Chat is also freely available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, come and use it when you want to. If you need to have a chat any other time when you feel you really need to talk to someone that understands, we can do that too.

There is normally one of the moderators and other members on the board to listen. Moderators appear in red on the forum. Don’t forget, you will get great advice for NFH problems on the forum board so pop along and say hi.

If you are not a member then registering is easy and free. You can find all our contact details on the main website.

Bye for now!

Welcome
