Neighbours From Hell in Britain: June 2003 Newsletter
VOLUME: 4
DATE: 4/6/03
SUBJECT: Neighbours From Hell in Britain: June 2003 Newsletter
Hello again!
I cant believe it is June already! Where does the time go?
So whats new in the world of NFH?
Neighbours From Hell in IrelandThis new site was created for members who are suffering with a nuisance neighbour who live in Ireland. The site address is http://www.nfh-ireland.org and it went live just last May. Please bear with us while we fully develop the site content.
I would like to welcome everyone who has joined via the Irish site, thats right we are now semi international! So a big hello to our Irish members, we hope you get what you need from the site and forum.
As yet we are only operating the one forum but we do have a folder for any Irish questions, this is because UK and Irish law are slightly different.
We will try and answer all questions but it may take us a little while to find the answers.
Forum News & MembershipThe big news was forum moderator April made the 10,000th post on the 31st May at 3:10pm!
In the month of May we welcomed 63 new forum members! Thats an average of 2 a day and so far the new membership count for June is 12 and as I write this we are only on 4th June!
Since then another 300 (approx.) posts have been made.
Keep up the great work guys!
We are sorry to see Badger leaving his post as moderator this month. This is due to other commitments. The entire membership of NFH would like to say a big thanks to Badger for all the hard work he has put into the forum. I hope you will come and visit and keep us updated on your wildlife studies!
One of our members has asked me to remind you all that we have active polls on the forum board. There are many issues we would like to have your views on. One such poll is asking where do you think is the best place for our first annual meeting?
So far only 20 members have responded, this is a little disappointing as we now have 263 members. Leeds is winning by a mile so far! (Makes less travelling time for me though!)
National Noise Action Day 2003This week on the 4th June saw National Noise Action Day. Please let us know what sort of things you did to publicise the day. Did you know that over 200 organisations took part? More information is available at NFH in Britain.
Gardens & NFHMany members are having problems arising in their gardens. Unfortunately for some, Summer is not the best season for them.
Summer holidays from school and gangs of youths are making it impossible for some people to enjoy their gardens and outdoor spaces.
So what can you do to protect your garden this summer?
Here are our top tips for keeping unwanted people from your gardens (this also works to deter burglars!)
- Plant spiky bushes and shrubs
The best varieties are hollies, especially Hedgehog Holly, Pyracantha, (a prickly plant with attractive red berries), Rugosa Roses, Mahonia, Quince, Gorse and so on.
The fastest growing of all prickles is
.brambles! These can
be removed once the others have become established and the added
bonus is in the autumn you can eat the berries! (Please take caution
with all berries as many are poisonous).
We suggest you go to local plant nurseries rather than the big garden centres as you will probably find them cheaper. Ask at your local nursery for more advice.
Thanks to some of our members who are experts in the shrub department!
- Trellis: trellis can be used to raise the height of your garden boundaries without restricting your views and light.
Please check your local council regulations for height restrictions though.
- High fences can also prevent unwanted lost toys in your gardens.
However any toys or balls that make their way into your garden must be returned by law.
For further advice and support please come and join the forum boards.
Hope this helps a little to keep those gardens looking nice.
Until Next TimeSo that's it for this month people.
As always, please come and visit the forum for anything you might need help with and feel free to contact any of the moderating team.
To a peaceful June for us all!
