Darley Oaks Farm is to cease breeding guinea pigs for medical research following a long-running campaign by animal rights activists.
The family farm run by the David Hall and Partners firm said it would shut down its guinea pig breeding operations at Darley Oaks Farm in Newchurch, Staffordshire, at the end of the year.
Animal rights protesters had undertaken a six year campaign to persuade Hall family to cease their manner of business.

Whether or not you agree with the animal rights protesters I think this is interesting as it shows that the police were unable to protect the Hall family and their workers. I must admit I hate the idea of animal testing and do not approve of the conditions that the animals were kept in - however, it was all perfectly legal and technically they should have been able to rely on the police to help them. I fully agree with the right to lawful protest, but some actions were clearly breaking criminal law and yet the police were unable to stop them.
I wonder if this high profile case will bring about changes in the law?
