Hello Everyone,

I feel really rotten. I only have a cold, but I haven't had one for over a year so this one has hit me with a vengance!!

I am blocked up, my head is muzzy and everything aches. :ill:

I have taken Echinichea, paracetamol and had vicks under my nose all night!!

I always seem to get a cold in the summer and it is the pits.I have Little T's birthday on Wednesday so I really need to get a bit better by then.

I woke up with it yesterday, so should I start to feel better by tomorrow?

Why does a cold have the ability to make you feel so rough?:cold:

Right moan over now - sorry!! Haven't got anyone else to whinge to today :D

Oh T, poor you.

You've taken all the right stuff. Take a multivitamin also, it can't hurt. Just try to rest, don't do anything too strenuous. Would a warm bath help with the aches?

I used to suffer a lot with sinusitis and that made me feel really rotten and teary.

Hope you feel better soon x x

Poor you tortoise, colds are rotten at any time but in the summer they make you feel worse as its so warm anyway :(

Get some sudafed for a blocked nose, and Olbas oil of course, that'll help, and drink lots of pineapple juice too for a bad throat, it has something in it that works on a bad throat and makes you feel better much more quickly :)

Take care

Oh aren't you all lovely. :)

I will try anything once. I feel like such a pr*t as I know it is only a cold, but I always want my Nan when I'm poorly!

How sad am I?

Little T has been getting me drinks and tissues, but I think he is bored now as he asking me when am I going to make lunch!!

Oh well more paracetamol for me I think. Going to curl up and watch "George and Mildred" the movie :D

Hope you feel better soon. :)

Try eating an Onion baked in Whisky (seriously!) - Northern remedy that I'm told really works! :D

Here's another one for 'Oatmeal Posset' (http://www.rampantscotland.com/recipes/blrecipe_posset.htm) (Scottish) which looks interesting! :D

Or better still, just have the whisky and forget about the rest of the ingredients.

Doesn't really help the cold, but you soon forget you are ill

Seriously though, plenty of fresh orange or pineapple juice works wonders, its the vit C in it. Hot orange works wonders.

Hope you feel better soon and this

Creative visualisation can help, if you feel up to it.

Imagining your white blood cells, turn them into nice glowing superheros, attacking those nasty little weasel like germ cells.....it's been shown to boost your immune system.

Get well soon

Oh poor you tortoise :( The sudafed will definitely do the trick for your blocked nose :)

Nothing worse than when you cannot sleep either, and you really want to and need to ;)

Don't forget the pineapple juice (Beth told me that one) it really does work :)

Sorry LP tried not to sneeze your way!! Hope you feel better.

I got it Sunday and now am starting to feel a bit better today.

Luckily it is just family over today for Little T, party is on Saturday at a different venue (We aren't silly!). He has a trampolining party at the leisure centre - don't worry we haven't bought one for the garden!!

Am still taking the sudafed and paracetamol. Ate for the first time today!!

Sorry to everyone who has caught my germs.

Try eating something with lots of fresh garlic in it (chicken soup is good for this) the garlic has anti bacterial qualities and helps strengthen your body to fight infections. I find Sudafed to be great for blocked sinuses.

It's amazing really - we can put a man on the moon, perform keyhole surgery, identify people through DNA and yet we can't cure the common cold!

Actually feel worse now then I did when I caught the cold!!

I am still bunged up, have a throat that needs constant clearing (so am driving everyone mad keep making a noise!), have a lovely dry tickly cough and no energy whatsoever.

I haven't eaten properly in days as there is nothing I really fancy and I have a pharmacy in my kitchen.

Don't want to bother the GP, but do you think I ought to ask someone what to do next? Is it normal to actually feel worse 4 days after you first get a cold or could it be a mixture of hayfever and a cold?

Any budding doctors out there? My friends husband offered to rub Vicks on my chest for me, which wasn't very helpful considering he is about 30 years older than me 8-X. I would rather listen to radio 1!!

Any advice would be grateful as this Tortoise can't get out of her shell at the moment! :ill:

I wouldn't go to the Dr's until you've been ill for at least 2 weeks and suspect something like a chest infection which would need anti-biotics.
Think about all the NFH stress you've been through - your poor body is probably very run down and your immune sytem low. Sometimes we have no choice but to admit that we are ill and take to our beds/settees. I think you just need to drink plenty of fluids (orange juice is fab!),get plenty of rest and make yourself ad comfortable as possible. Offer Little T extra pocket money to wait on you - don't do any housework.
In today's world we want to fix things and carry on - however, I feel that your body is telling you that enough is enough. You need to rest your body and mind and take time out to rebuild your strength. Tryong to carry on when you are like this could make you a lot worse. Listen to your body - it sounds as if it is crying out for mercy.
NFH induced stress has made me more vunerable to colds etc. I truly believe that stress attacks your body in an amazing number of ways. Last year I tried forcing myself to carry on as normal and surpress all the stress I was feelling. I nearly wound up in hospital and was given a strict talking to by my GP. We all need to really take care of ourselves and deliberatly make room in our lives for fun and relaxation.

Take a break from being SuperMum!!!

Thanks DG,

That's my problem, I can't just sit down and rest!! I always want to be better yesterday instead of tomorrow and then worry that I am not feeling better.

I am stressed at the moment not only with nfh, but other things too. I have spent most of the day crying on and off which hasn't helped my nose and throat at all!!

I am now on the sofa and will try and stay here now.

I always push myself too hard and end up feeling worse before I get better ;)

I tell myself it's only a stupid cold and I can do the housework and I can go to work, and I can go for a night out and I will not be put off by a cold

Then I feel worse and ask myself why I did that? ;)

hi t
sorry you are feeling worse
this is just a thought but are you running your air con at the moment if you are there is a chance it may be blowing dust particles and traces of pollen around which could aggravate a cold
if you feel you dont want to trouble your gp and you just want some general advise nhs direct might be able to help they have some good articles and self help advice on their site
take care

Thats ok Dibuzz. :)

My problem mainly is that Mr T has a new job (started in May) and has a secretary now. She is one of these bright bubbly people, you know always laughing. She has two kids and is a single mum, but freely admits to using men to get what she wants.
I am a very jealous person anyway and can't cope with him working with this woman. I know I am being stupid, but where I feel so rough my mind is working overtime.

Oh T I'm sorry you're not feeling any better :(

You must be run down, your body needs a good old rest, sometimes you push yourself for so long that eventually something's gotta give.

I usually find that I get really ill just before Xmas. It's around then that my body says right, that's enough, you've been working yourself into the ground all year and now it's all caught up with you. And I have to spend a good few days in bed recouping.

Try to rest up as much as you can - do you have someone else who can do any last minute bits for Little T's party on Saturday? Just so you're not running around at the last minute?

Oh,poor Tortoise, and you're such a kind, caring person. Don't you go fretting about things. Be gentle to yourself. As others have said, stress affects the immune system, I always get ill when I'm stressed, and the best thing you can do is listen to your body and rest. Don't let your mind work too much overtime, either, though I know exactly what you mean, I'm the same :o

Ooh I know how that feels! Make sure that Mr T has a glamourous pic of you un his wallet AND on his desk. Pics of Little T are a good idea too. I send Mr DG saucy texts and have found that it is a good policy to leave him too exhausted for anyone else!!!

Besides, he knows damm well I'd take him everything he's got if he messed around!!!

Have you tried telling Mr T how you feel? He might be chuffed to know that you're a bit jealous!

Hope you feel better soon!

Imagine hubby working with a whole school full of young attractive female teachers and support staff. I do the text thing, and tell him he'd wish HE had never been born, AND I'd have it splashed over the nationals [like a similar one this week] I'd probably have Mr sp splashed all over the nationals come to that

You've nothing to worry about T, but we all know that feeling, I'm sure

Hi T, glad you got seen to. Make sure you take the antibiotics to the end of the course, even if you start to feel better, otherwise it might all come back again.

Don't worry about Mr T, I'm sure he has never given you any cause for concern before he got this job, but don;t forget to remind him how much you love him :)

Hope little T has a great time trampolining
