View Full Version : Bread
Mrs JIMMY pestered me into buying her a breadmaker last year, i remember thinking "great we wont have to buy any bread anymore, just the ingredients"
we have only used it a couple of times though because whenever we do a loaf it is no good for cutting into slices for sandwiches, it just seems to be too soft in the middle, i just wondered if we were doing something wrong?
Has anyone else got one and if so can you cut your loaves into slices ok or does it just fall to pieces as soon as you try?
hi jimmy
i dont have a bread maker but my sister does
ive just asked her and she said it is important to put the ingredients in exactly as your instruction book tells you to if you do it in the wrong order it makes a difference to the texture :)
hope this is of help to you i always rely on good old mr hovis myself :)

I've got a bread maker and I have no problem cutting it into slices, I don't make white bread though, maybe that's the difference.
Like has already been said you need to be accurate with the ingredients and get them in the correct order (no idea why!!) I usually keep an eye on the loaf during the kneading process and add more flour or water if the consistency's not right. Also, make sure you remove it from the tin and get it on a cooling rack as soon as it's baked.

I love my breadmaker!!! Making bread is quite tricky. Make sure that the water in your mixture is warm - not cold or hot. Different machines tell you to add your ingrediants in different ways so pay close attention to your instruction book rather than a recipe book designed for various breadmakers.
Tesco's and Sainsbury's both do a "just add water" mix which is nice - so give these a try just to see if your machine is working correctly.
Also try rubbing a little oil onto the paddle before adding your ingrediants
Expreiment with different recipies and types of flour - you can get ones especially made for bread machines and these ones work best.
Look to see if your breadmaker' s manufacturer has a webpage - this may give you more info and may have a helpline for you to contact.
Let me know how you get on and please feel free to ask more questions - it took me a while to get the hang of it.
Thanks everyone, i will relay all this info onto Mrs JIMMY, somehow though i dont think we will be able to make bread as good as what you can buy it.
Going to keep trying though, will let you know if we "Master" it. :)
