Yes it's me, the technophobe again :hihi:  Having stopped all pop ups following the advice given here, I wondered if there is anything to stop SPAM. We've always had loads, but in recent weeks it seems to have quadupled. As if that isn't bad enough a good 90% of it is obscene, or verging on. I am no prude by any means, but this is a family pc!! If we needed any of our bits and pieces enlarged [which we don't  ], we're perfectly capable of dealing with it ourselves   . They are just the repeatable ones, the rest make ME blush  Anything we can do?????? I am totally fed up with it now.

I use MailWasher (http://www.firetrust.com/firetrustpro.html) and have done for some time.

It costs $37, but I find it worthwhile - there's a free trial option so you can give it a go before paying for it.

The beauty of it is you can 'train' it so it gets better as you go along.

Like Enterien I use Mailwasher and it helps but you need to realise that it only helps, it doesn't stop everything and there is a risk that it will stop some stuff you do want. You need to keep an eye on what it's blocking from time to time.

I think the sad fact is that until there is an international ban (rather unlikely in my view) this will grow and grow.

One tip - some spam e-mails say something like "If want to unsubscribe click here". Don't ever do that it just confirms to the spammer that they have found a "live" e-mail address.

It's also worth having two e-mail addresses. One which you use for anything to do with loging on to internet sites and services which is the one which will end up being spammed and another which you ONLY use for personal contacts with people you know and trust - this is then less likely to be found by the spammers.
