Being a true Domestic Goddess I have planted in tubs some culinery herbs to use in reeipes.

Can anyone tell me if I should place the tubs in full sunlight, partial shade or shade? The herbs are basil, parsley, chives and mint so far.
I've put them in compost containing miracle gro and have added those gel granules that mean you don't have to water so often - is this ok?
Also, are these herbs annuals or will they be back year after year?

Many thanks

I've got herbs in a huge terracotta pot in my side garden, they're in full sun, last year did really well and have all come back strongly except the corainder :)

I've got chives, mint, chocolate mint, pineapple mint, rosemary, purple basil, parsley and lemon thyme :)

Hi DG, I have chives, thyme, marjoram and rosemary growing in my garden.

chives like moist soil so i have those in a partially shaded spot.

the others are all in full sun.

the basil you have needs a lot of sun, and if you plant it together with tomatoes it will keep whitefly away from the fruit.

your should be kept in quite sunny spots as well, i think the mint will need a good amount of watering, so i would keep it in a different pot to the others....

Gardener's World this week had a bit about herbs, so if you go on their website I am sure it will ahve all the info!

I am no expert, but Mr.sp made me a herb wheel just outside the back door 2 years ago. We have a south facing garden and they are in full sun. Chives and mint come up again every year, as do lemon balm, tarragon, sage. Rosemary is a great one and it's evergreen, as is bay. I don't know what you are 'supposed' to do but they are thriving so must be doing something right
