Hi guys,
What age are your dogs, and do they have many teeth?
My babe is 10yrs old and had to have some teeth removed. She's a Yorkshire Terrier and her breed is prone to teeth problems.
She had all her chewing teeth removed leaving her with four canines, poor mite  it was still a shock. He says one of them is not very good too.
I have not had her from being a puppy, and her mouth was over crowded with tiny teeth. She had a lot of tiny ones removed when I first took her for her first check.
She will not eat dry foods or canned food never has, and I have tried to get her to eat them. But I refuse to let her starve for longer than 3 days.
She gets chicken and rice or lamb, beef. I always chop her food up small and I am using the liquardizer at the moment. Poor dog cannot understand its the same just easier to eat.
GG.
:( Aw GG, poor little thing  .
My dog was 12 and his teeth were all there before he died, but then he was a totally different breed.
However, I did have a cat until 16 yrs age and his teeth were dreadful even since he was young. When he got older, one of his fangs fell out and his gums were awful. He stopped eating dried food at about 14 years old.
He used to like canned food in jelly - he would lick the jelly up and leave the chunks, poor old thing!
I hope your little dog gets used to it soon :flowers: .

 oh the poor thing! i dont have any dogs, just 2 cats and i was so upset when one of my cats had to have a tooth out! he had some gum disease and after his op, i put both the cats on dried food to give their gums some stimulation...they had always had tinned stuff up til then!
i think your dog will manage ok once her gums settle down and she will be able to chew quite well on them...but she is bound to be miserable for a bit! poor chook! give her a cuddle from me!!
I hope she's better soon GG :) It's amazing how quickly dogs adapt
Comet is 9 this November and 4 weeks ago, we had to take him to the vets for 7 teeth removed, mainly from the right side of his mouth but also 2 little ones from the front, the rest of his teeth had to be thoroughly cleaned.
Being an ex racing greyhound his teeth have always been pretty awful (the racing mush they feed the dogs ruins their teeth), and he gets bored chewing a bone whereas Amber and Star love a bone and have sparkly teeth, though Stars have been ground down at sometime in her racing life. ;)
Comet has recovered fine, ate scrambled egg as soon as he got back from the vets and was back onto pizza the next day. We feed him dry dog food, but wet it with hot water and leave it to cool :D And he's eating just fine.
I also do now try to brush the remaining teeth (though Comet isn't keen, we like the toothpaste, not the brush  ).
Something the vet told me too, which I didn't know, if you boil chicken bones such as legs and wings, they are safe to give to dogs as they become soft (I have never fed chicken bones as I thought they splintered in their stomachs) and some dogs enjoy them, plus they help their teeth

Hello again,
I had her eating mini dog biscuits for a while then she decided it was too much work so refused to eat them. She used to eat the coloured chews then she refused them, when I introduced the smacko chew to her.
She liked these a lot, and we used to buy the sandwich bits you get at Morrisons and the like. She is my third Yorkie and the smallest one I have owned. :)
My first Yorkie I got when I was 7yrs old. She was a big Yorkie who liked her treats as a child I over fed her. She had one broken tooth when we got her from the breeder. They put a large choke chain on her. She kept nearly all her teeth. She lived to be 18yrs old. I'll never forget my first dog. :)
My Second dog was from a long line of champion Yorkies called Ozmillion. I was over the moon when one of the Ozmillion Yorkies won at Crufts. She was a pet yorkie though. She liked chasing squirrels in the park. She lived until she was 15yrs old. :)
My yorkie at the moment I got given from my new neighbour. I always say I will not get another dog but we do. I have always had a dog in the house from before I was born to now. And this yorkie has a proper TAIL that wags constantly. I never set out to get a dog with a docked tail, it just happened.
I am glad to see that the rules have changed for tail docking, for the sake of Crufts etc. All my Yorkies are treated as pets first, and if they like the dog show stuff I've being to a few. I hate to see yorkies carried every where, with their hair tied up.
GG.
GG, you'd have been heartbroken if you saw my NFHs dog, they had a little Yorkie, they got this dog as a puppy because we had dogs :(
Poor mite never got walked, on an odd occasion it was carried by one of the children or the NFH (her), with his hair in a topknot. As the novelty wore off it was locked out in the garden for hours, barking and howling, this then progressed to it not getting out at all ( not even to do its business, it went in the house) it was locked in the pantry in the kitchen all day, howling, the left it there for 2 weeks while they went on holiday, her mother came once a day to feed it.
We saw it before we moved, it had never been clipped and its hair was just lots of matts, under its belly so that it couldn't walk, all over its face, poor thing looked miserable. It had got out of the door and Mr NFH had to chase it to get it, he caught it in a back garden and whacked the poor little dog.
Yes we did call the RSPCA, don't know what happened but the dog stayed with them, they'd had a dog removed once before for cruelty, an alsatian they chained up in the garden, when found it's chain made it's throat red raw
