I've seen some footie players with wristbands, which seem to be the latest fashion B) and I've got a few too!!

I think I'd like to collect them...but...

I find them really hard to come by though  ...does anyone else have any (which ones?!) and where do you buy them?

:)

I have a pink one from Breast Cancer Research and we have white ones from Oxfam "Make Poverty History". I got my breast cancer one from the breast cancer research website. I had to order a minimum of 5, so us girlies got together and bought them. :D I got the white ones from our local oxfam shop, though you can get these on their site too. The Oxfam ones are Make Poverty History ones so are available through Save the Children, CAFOD and various other charities that support 3rd world causes.

Always get them from official sources eg: the organisations website as some people are selling them in shops, on the street and ebay and not giving the charities any money. :badmood:

There was a blue one for Bullying campaigns, but the official one that was available through Newsround has been discontinued. The yellow one that alot of men wear is from Lance Armstrong for testiscular cancer. There are other colours too for different charities, I think Nike have a black and white one for anti racism and orange is used by two charities.

They are a good way to support the chosen charities especially for children. Although some schools have banned them!! The reason in our area for this was the anti bullying ones were limited and kids were fighting over them!! Kinda defeats the object really!!

Hope that helps you Prof

:) the black and white anti racism wrisbands are amde by Nike and they are totally and utterly sold out!

there is a toy shop near us that has wristbands but none of them are for charity, they come in loads of colours though and have stiff written on them like 'be strong' , 'stay positive'. not really the thing, I think!

Hi,
Our kids have the black and white ones for Anti-Racism, we got them off e-bay, we had to pay a bit more but they were desperate and I had a bit of money in the bank...........!!!!!

We have the pink ones too and like Tortoise we got them off the Cancer Research website, we had to buy 5 also but seeing as I have 4 kids, it wasn't a problem. :D

We have the yellow ones; Lance Armstrong, a friend of ours bought a batch of them through his website, I think.

Blue: anti-bullying, bought from kids at school!!!!!!! :(

Our primary school has banned them too, I agree with Tortoise, kinda defeats the object eh?

I have seen some black and white anti-racism ones in our local Fair Trade Shop and if you like I could send one to you. If so, pm me and give me details, etc.

Cheers :)

Our local cancer reasearch shop now have the bands instore.

I think its just a case of keeping your eyes open and you will get them.

I know one of our local schools had red beand for anti - racism which they made for their enterprise project, the money was going to the group who run the 'give racism the red card' campaign and they were delighted. Not sure where to get then, as I think they were inly available online

:) I have noticed them too and only really knew of the yellow one 'Livestrong' until I saw a sign up in Help the Aged for purple 'Hug' bands.

I saw some on ebay too and pheeewweee, the prices  not so much for the band itself, but the postage!!! :nono:

The info so far here has been really interesting!! I must have a sneaky peaky in the cancer research shop next time then!!

I think they a great idea - I have a few odd enamel badges for charity which I like, but somehow these bands are so much more wearable! :D

Hi Mazza,

Well I guess those on ebay are into making loadsamoney eh? Our postage was only about £1 which is why I bought them off there. This was only last month. So I guess these people are charging more for postage than the bands?

Typical.

And this money is meant for charities????????

But we fell into the trap as we could not get them anywhere.

Saw some at a car boot sale last week, trading standards were confiscating the lot ;)

So please, anyone buying them, make sure they are from a reputable trader and that the money IS going to charity :D

No worries Eeyore, ours are leigitimate.

Have seen loads in the corner shops and on our market stalls that are dodgy too.

There is always someone who will cash in on anything making money.

Sad isn't it? Things done for a good cause and some people line their own pockets :(

Good to hear everyone is buying them from reputable places

The pink ones are usually for Breast Cancer, the official one from site says Support, Knowledge, Strength and has the web address on the underside. But my friend has one she got from another cancer website that has Mother, Daughter on it.

Our Cancer shop sells out of the pink ones as soon as they come in. Avon do a nice metal pin as well and of course the pink ribbon for awareness month in October.

Gosh, thanks for the tip tortoise...are they available in the Cancer shop?

I would wear a NFHIB one too. What colour could we have and what slogan? We could look out for other members then and wink at each other!! ;)

The pink breast cancer ones are selling well again because of Kylie (get well soon :flowers2: ). Dorothy Perkins also have them in. People that took part in the Race for life got given them, but they are slightly darker.

How about a black bracelet with NFHiB on it in white?
Or have 2 different colours one for males one for females?

Is there a chance we could do this? Or am i just dreaming again

My wife has a collection of these bracelets all different colours and all are the real maccoy, you can bet if we go to the market or a carboot sale that sells the fake ones she always makes a point to show me and say "look they not real ones"

Excellent design idea Jimmy

Good for Mrs Jimmy everyone should only buy the real thing otherwise they are pointless. Lots of shops are selling just coloured bands now, but some do have a sign saying that they are not connected with any charities.

Isn't it funny how things catch on? Does anyone remember bright socks, where you wore odd ones. One pink and one green! Also those Global Hypercolour t-shirts that changed colour with heat. We had boys at our school who would put their hands where they shouldn't so you walked round with handprints on your front!! :D
