We watched the VE Day concert last night on the BEEB. We thought it was ok, but wished they had devoted more time to the veterans. Natasha K (can't spell her name) seemed to spend more time getting changed then presenting!! Katie Melua's version of "White Cliffs Of Dover" was amazing and made me cry!

Mr T and I think it is a tough anniversary to cover as although there was victory in Europe there was still fighting else where. Also there were many hard times to follow. Mr T's grandma says that you almost wished the war hadn't ended as when it did people stopped helping each other so much and rationing got harder.

I think more could have been done yesterday on TV, we love the Grand Prix, but maybe a little mention wouldn't have gone amiss considering how many different nationalities take part.

We will be buying our little V for victory badges as soon as we can find some and probably getting a flag put up in Trafalgar Square for July 10th dedicated to all our relatives who fought.

I do think it is vital to remember these special days so our children can carry on remembering too.

:victory: :victory:

I completely agree with you, tortoise. I was singing along, and had a tear in my eye when the cameras went in on the veterans. I thought Kathryn Jenkins was good too. You took the words right out of my mouth about Natasha Kaplinski!!!! She changed at least 3 times. WHY!?!?
I always make sure our children know about such things. I think it is really important it is not forgotten what those who fought did for us and the sacrifices they made.

Do you think the Queen should have been there - or was she and I missed it??
