I have a home network and often play games with my son- Some lose thier appeal very fast because naturally homenetwork means theres only two people playing- and my son kills me TOOOO EASY!! lol

Im not sure if anyone else does but I thought i would list a few games that COOP PLAY- Ie the gameplay is far more fun working against the computer instead of each other...and seem to hold my sons intrest longer...

Heres a few titles worth getting as they are COOP play in multiplayer (which is much more fun than just 1 man chasing 1 man)
(on most 18+ you can turn off the gore but check yourself as im rather less critical of gore in a game where my lad is concerned..

POINT AND SHOOT

Aliens versus preditor (not avp2 - the original- though i hear you can DL A coop levels on that theres more on AVP1gold edition) 18+

Swat 4 (great giggle even for older players but i warn you the language is NFH)18+

Battlefield 1942 or Vietnam15+(shooting bots)

Judge dredd - (you can the single player game coop which is rare)18+

Starwars Jedi knight outcast + academy (you can team up against bots)

Starwars battlefront (shooting bots) (all starwars games are 12+)

The starwars Shooters are the best for children if you value censorship- If you dont mind the somewhat realistic swaring at the police - swat is the least Gory
and the one that needs the real Team work to succeed..

We only found one decent flyaround shoot style...AND HE LOVES IT..

SIMULATION

Freelancer (sort of a modern day ELITE you run the server on one machine and still play on the same machine works fine)
Its all about Space trading and pirating etc ..

This game has me kicked off my machine more than anyother as he likes to play it with his friends too.. (i dont mind them playing this as its a 12+no gore game i wont let them play overage games if they are not my kids unless i know the parents very well and know they said OK !)

If anyone knows a good coop flight sim let us know im still looking in that department and my son wants to shoot me down...

-RTS-

Command and Conquer The Generals +16

Act of war 16+

Lord of the rings -Battle for middleearth 12+

Warhammer 40k dawn of war- +16

Most are 16+ and some are 18+ which makes me a lapse modern parent i guess - But those titles certainly are the ones we play again and again because they COOP rather than one on one..

Great fun on a rainy day..

It's been a while since I played any games like that because I suffer from 3D motion sickness within minutes of playing them and it's literally 'on-the- floor writihing in nausea' if I try to play them. Shame really because I spent months playing games like Doom.

Unreal (the first one) is brilliant because it has the tournament play but also has the main game with a great story built into it. Very intelligent artificial intelligence and lot's to keep you on your toes. I played it for several months and only achieved around 30% of the story (and I wasn't a bad player I'd like to think, just thorough ;) ) so it's certainly excellent value for money.

Had a look at Unreal Tournament and whilst it was good from a COOP game play point of view, the lack of story just bored me silly I'm afraid (although the Fragging was particularly fun! ).

I found if you get that motion sickness turn the resolution down and turn off what they call SCREEN SWAY and it solves it- I know my friend is very similar he can play for a while then feels seasick lol i find i get it if i go anything above 800 x 600 screen.

Thanks for the tips.

I was truly addicted to Unreal at the time   and I tried every combination possible to allow me to play it. I even bought a new graphics card and bought a second copy of the game to play on my wife's Mac! I even bought sea sickness tablets.

Dedication? More like obsession at the time!

Imagine if you will, every time I changed the settings I had to test it out. Every time I tested it I became violently ill and it took approx 30 minutes to recover each time. I did this for days! :hihi:

ribbit had to put up with me being sick and grouchy for days! <<Sorry ribbit.>> :flowers:

Daft I know but I was completely obsessed with it at the time.

Ah well, that's life.
