Hello All
I've managed to pick up chicken pox from somewhere and am covered in red blobs - everyone thinks it's funny given I'm 32 years old (including Blackpud) - even the doctor looked amused this morning when I went to see him. :doctor:
Anyone had it as an adult? How long are the spots likely to last? (they started to appear on Friday) and given that I've been scratching - am I likely to be hideously disfigured as a result?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ill:
Elle
Oh no :o poor you :(
I've never ever had chicken pox and avoid anyone who has had it big time (but the internet is safe from that kind of virus  )
I hope you get better soon B)

Hi Elle, :flowers:
Oh deary me. Not pleasant at all. A work colleague of mine has just had it but it was really bizarre. She's in her mid-20's and whilst she has had the illness (she's at the scar stage now) she has felt fit as a fiddle and suffered no nausea, tiredness, fever, etc, etc. She was only told to stay at home for 3 days to prevent her giving the illness to her work colleagues. Everyone is gobsmacked because they expected her to be half dying, not chirpily nipping around the office.
I remember having it as a kid and it was awful for 2 weeks. How do you feel? Is it bad? Has BlackPud had Chicken Pox before?
Hope you get better soon.

Ooh nasty  poor you. I had mumps when I was in my 20's - I caught it from my son, and no, it isn't funny. :( Once the spots form a scab, you are ,in theory, no longer infectious, but this can take a week from the start
Good luck. Calamine lotion helps if they are itchy ;)
Dear Elle
I was 39 years old when I got chickenpox, even when my kids had them i did,nt just my luck .all i would say is be careful if you have any breathing problems as it can affect your lungs if you catch it when older, could ask your doc about this as I was given antibiotics,Hope you feel better soon my spots lasted nearly 2 weeks if thats any help!
Regards Salem

Oh eck Elle :( .
I had it when I was 17 and it was totally hideous. The spots lasted a week and then took another five days/week to scab over. I didn't know what they were when they first appeared so I picked them (Ooo, bliss! ) but now have horrid pock marks here and there as a reminder  Luckily they are largely covered by my hair though ;) .
I was so tired with it, and I caught it in the summer (and I was in Africa at the time) so it was atrocious keeping cool and not itchy...I found the only thing that helped was to sit in a cool bath for literally hours on end with lots of 'Savlon' liquid poured in - bliss :lush: .
(those spots get everywhere...and I mean everywhere  ....... :o )
I was also given antibiotics to stop the spots getting infected which was reassuring  .
It's no joke getting it when you are an adult - my kids have all had it and they were nowhere near as poorly as I felt as a grown up.
If blackpud has not had chicken pox, then keep an eye out for him too .
Hope you feel better soon. :flowers:

Thanks guys - Blackpuds had it so he's safe. My dad came round to the flat the other day and treated me as though I had plague and wouldn't come in!
(those spots get everywhere...and I mean everywhere** .......** )
 You're right - I've got spots in some very remote and embarassing places!!! Even got some in my gullet which is a pain as eating, one of my favourite things, is painful - just have to soothe the pain with a nice cold G&T.

Poor you! My girls had chicken pox a few years ago and the itching drove them nuts! Apparantly taking piriton can help releave the itching. Why not ask at your chemists?
Make sure you stay away from pregnant women as chicken pox can have nasty consequences for baby.
Bonkers Mad!!!

Not trying to depress you but you can get it more than once!! My eldest has had it three times! She is only 7! The second and third times i took her to the doctor and was so confident it wasnt chickenpox - I stood there and said to the doctor "She has woken up this morning covered in spots and it cant be chickenpox cos she already had it" The doctor said it was an old wives tale and you can get more than once! So I should keep away from Blackpud a while longer yet! Its good advice from DG about the piriton it really does stop the itching - my daughter didnt scratch so no scars!
Look after yourself and hope you fell better soon! :flowers2:

:( Poor Elle, you have my every sympathy, I had chicken pox when I was 21 and it was awful, I was very unwell with it, I had a fever and the spots were everywhere (as you have found   ) , I even had them in my ears!
The thing is, I didnt realise at first so when I got a couple of spots on my face I merrily picked them ... :o ...when I was told it was chicken pox I was really worried abut scars, but I found some calendula cream in a health food shop after I recovered and that did help a lot.
I also recall I had a dry cough for ages afterwards...must have been from the spots inside my lungs/throat...
The itching is evil, so dont hesitate to take antihistamines and painkillers as well if it gives you a fever...the calamine lotion drove me nuts, but I can vouch for cold baths, what relief!!!! :lush:
Please take care of yourself, as although people think chickenpox is a mild childhood illness it can be quite dangerous and cause pneumonia if you get a really strong strain of it!! :flowers2: :flowers2:
