View Full Version : What's your favourite eBay find?
Mr Ribbit

There's been talk of eBay on another thread and it made me think of the things we've bought or found on there over the years.
The thing I am most proud of buying is a froggy handbag for ribbit. It was a limited edition bag that was only sold in one store for one season in Paris. No-one was allowed to reserve one, people had to go into the store to physicallly buy it. All the other stores around the world didn't stock it and everytime I was in Paris at the time, I got tied up in business so much that I could never get to the store in time. I even dashed across the city by taxi a few times to find it was too late. :(
After 3 years (I think) of searching for an original one on the internet (I can be very determined  ), I managed to find one on eBay being sold in California. I couldn't believe my eyes and managed to get the sellers number and phoned her to pay immediately! :phone: It was quite an adventure to buy this bag but that was all part of the fun and it was worth it to see the look on ribbit's face.
Here's a picture of it anyhow...

A playmobil victorian mansion for my daughters. It's given them hours of pleasure!
For myself, a very slinky pair of black leather books that make Mr DG go all trembly at the knees when I wear them!!
Mr DG got his beloved Aston Villa shirt which he'd love to wear everyday
Gosh all sorts, but in particular a very rare Japanese Eeyore that was limited to about 100 :)
Also we once sold something that made someones day, we used to have a toy shop and got invited to the launch of a new waehouse for a company called Deans of Leeds, and they gave Models of Yesteryear vans with Deans of Leeds written on, my mum and dad went and got one each (I was with them and got a worm in an apple which comes out of the apple when you talk to it!)
Just kept the vans (and the apple!) then put one on Ebay about 2 years ago, and it went for an awful lot of money, it was very very rare, a guy in Australia bought it, he'd never seen one, and he asked how we got it - told the story which of course proved its authenticity - he was so pleased with it. :)
We later sold the other one to a guy over here, again for a lot of money - Eeyores mam said she wished they'd given me a van instead of the worm in the apple!
Ohmylord I've found all sorts of weird and wonderful things on there, been using it years. Granted it's mostly just a tool to help fill my wardrobes up. I don't like to walk around in the same stuff as everyone else :)
There's all sorts of obscure finds on there if you know where to look.
The most amazing item I ever bought was a HUGE Lion King 'Circle Of Life' snowglobe which cost £70, bargain, I adore it. Got some limited edition matrioshka (sp?) nesting dolls of Lion King characters as well, very unusual-looking indeed. A Nala plush..limited edition plate..collector cards too.. I'll stop now.
A Yu-Gi-Oh card for one of my boys for 4p :wow:

An early copy of "Les Infortunes de la Vertu" in readable condition - not so easy to get, and a very interesting study :)
A nice cigarette case with a great Audrey Hepburn design on it :D
E bay is such an interesting resource - you can find anything :)

That is just so true, I've had allsorts of bits and pieces from there, clothes, curtains, perfume, CD's, collectables, presents for other people, it is amazing what there is on Ebay
This is a hard one...
The first thing that springs to mind is a copy of "The Bois Saga" by Peter Cushing. There were only 500 copies ever produced, and I never thought I'd get one. I think I paid £168 for it.
We got a wonderful Chinese cabinet - red lacquer with gold designs, very grand and a real eye catcher. That was £670, and it would have gone for over two thousand pounds in a store.
Mr R found an album (on CD) that I'd been trying to buy since 1984 - Alan Tam's "Lorelei"
Today we're going to pick up a pair of Kangxi Sancai foo dog taper holders for my foo dog collection... they were dead cheap at £67... I was expecting them to go for around £300 at least. It's really difficult to get a pair.
I've found so many wonderful things... just the other day I got a really rare book on Chinese furniture by Cescinsky... then there was the Goyo woodblock print which I never thought I'd find... and the signed Noel Nouet print... so many things...
And there's still so much on ebay that I've yet to buy! :wow: In fact, I'm off there now!

Hi..........
I love E bay...we are selling some of our products on there at the mo...........
The stupidest thing I ever saw on there was a pound coin going for auction....... the highest bid was 70p...........but the postage was £ 1.00!?!
Wierd eh???
jj
A bucket of water? Did anyone buy it?
I hope ebay is good for selling cars, we are going to put Mr Eeyores car up for sale

A previous neighbour sold his car on eBay. Actually, he sold his number plate and the car was free (it was a Porsche and the number plate had 944 in it or something like that)!
I think he got around £1000 or £1500 for it. The car was in quite a scraggy condition but just about drivable I think so he mentioned it would be useful for doing up or spare parts in the listing.
Thnaks for the tip Mr R, Mr Eeyores car is a sort of classic, she's a 16 year old lady now, well looked after, 1 year MOT (just done) and loads of work done, but she does have a few small rusty bits and she has 149000 on the clock, but with the engine she has, she can do more than that, easily :)
Bonkers Mad!!!

i know someone who advertised a stick on e-bay, "1 genuine german stick". the starting bid was 3 euro's but if it went to more than 7 euro's they promised to enclose a free "genuine german stone" i'll have to find out whether it sold or not ;)
Now that's scary :D paying £255 for a bucket of water - we've loads of water here after all the rain, anyone want to buy some?
I remember someone selling mud from the seaside once... I think that did sell.
I suppose for it to stay mud-like you'd have to water it... or it would go back to being dirt or sand or whatever it was. Strange.

:notworthy: I love Ebay, its the best website going (after NFHiB of course :D )
I have bought loads from Ebay, started off needing to find extra pieces for my collection of Denby china as the pattern I had was discontinued, over the years many other items...but the piece de resistance was a Rolf Harris print, one of only 695 worldwide, signed by the man himself, of his version of Gustav Klimt's 'The Kiss' :notworthy: :notworthy:
Got it just before Christmas for £530 , retail price at least £1,100 (if you can find one) ...we just got it framed last week and have this very day hung it up in our living room...
It is absolutely gorgeous!!!! :mexwave: :mexwave:
Long live Ebay!!! :notworthy: :notworthy:

Crikey Annabel. :wow: You must be sooo proud. What a good price too :wow: and whilst the value will keep going up, I'm sure you'll never want to part with it. ;) Ribbit has met Rolf.
One of my most treasured finds was a Cure album (on tape) for 99 pence. It was my very first album when I was 13 and it got chewed up years ago and was a real rarity. I'm dead excited because I've just found out it's going to be released as a deluxe CD soon after nearly 20 years :wow: Wooohooo!
Ribbit has got me some amazing stuff off eBay. There was a limited edition CD of 'The Glove' (Robert Smith from the Cure worked with a chap from Siouxie and the Banshees on it in the early 80's) that she got me. When I was a kid I couldn't afford it but went into town every Saturday with my trusty buspass to just look at the album for around 6-8 weeks.
She's also gotten me autographed photos from Star Trek TNG and an autographed communicator badge from the film 'Star Trek First Contact'. Love them to bits! ^_^
Hi....especially Eeyore!!!
About fifteen years ago I used to work for a major international entertainment company. Every anniversary of your employment and Christmases you would recieve limited edition lithograph prints and commemorative gifts, such as diaries, posters, plush etc............
I worked for them eight years and in that time amounted a tasty collection of memoribilia....I was not a huge fan of the whole scene so passed the things on to friends and family................
Golly,,,, I so wish I had not, could've made a fortune!!!
