Father Ted and Phoenix Nights for me.
The characters in both made them. Esp Father Jack Hackett - Jameson Whiskey on tap = heaven.
Slainte
The Prisoner,? too young to remember, but did have the pleasure of stocktaking at Portmeirion Pottery (set up by William Clough Ellis's(architect of Portmeirion - setting of the Prisoner) offspring) prior to its Stock Market flotation - and delivering a draft of the prospectus to Kleinwort Benson in London.

Ah ha .. (warms to subject)
Ok .. the main TV series...
1. William Hartnell
2. Patrick Troughton
3. John Pertwee
4. Tom Baker (My favourite!)
5. Peter Davison
6. Colin Baker
7. Sylvester McCoy (oh dear)
8. Paul McGann
9. Christopher Eccleston (we shall see if he lives up to it)
But, there were others .. oh yes...
Peter Cushing played Dr Who in two films, "Dr Who and the Daleks" & "Daleks -- Invasion Earth 2150 AD"
Rowan Atkinson, Richard E Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley player Dr Who in the comic relief epsiode "The Curse of Fatal Death"
Some borderline spoofs:
Rod Hull starred in "Dr Emu and the Deadly Dustbins"
Fred Harris and Tony Aitken starred as the Doctor in "Dr Eyes"
Jim Broadbent (again) in a Victoria wood Dr Who sketch
Mike Smash (aka Harry Enfield) played Dr Who in the 60's (ok, very borderline)
Mark Gatiss played the Doctor in "The Web of Caves" vs David Walliams as a camp alien (1999) - very funny

Favourite as a kid:
- Doctor Who
I remember crying once when a series had finished! The Daleks and the Cybermen were my favourites (Because I was fascinated with Robots and anything that looked like a Robot).
- Gigantor (cartoon about a giant Robot) and stuff with Robots in like the Sci-Fi Film 'Forbidden Planet'
- The Avengers, The Benny Hill Show, The Banana Splits, The Tomorrow People, Star Trek etc etc (can't remember them all)
Favourites now:
- Comedies (some of them been mentioned already)

(BBC2 used to be a good breeding ground for Comedy stuff, but not anymore)
Oh yes.... almost forgot.... 'I hate my Neighbours'

Michael Rodd
Michael Rodd was one of the original Lookaround team when it launched in 1961.
He went on to present the BBC's children's quiz Screen Test.
Michael was also one of the presenters of the BBC's, Tomorrows World.
Michael also presented TVS's The Real World and stood in for Mike Scott on The Time The Place.
linky here (http://www.btinternet.com/~rob.frowen/presenters_r2.html)

Words and Pictures, there was a learning programme I loved, always remember they did a song called chewing gum and chips ;) :D
Yep Eeyore, that was him....reminded me a little of wayne sleep only cuter...
JJ
blimey, I just stuck his name in google...that guy did loads!! :o I mean loads!! :D
Singing shows  that reminds me, what was the stange one in the early seventies that had a man and a woman singing a variety of children's songs. they were supposed to be special requests and they always read out the letters.
Strange thing is, every week someone had asked for ' Puff the Magic Dragon'

Me again,
JJ, Tiswas was better than Swap Shop, but like you, I enjoyed the other three.
Also, used to like:
Trumpton (Pugh, Pugh, etc)
Camberwick Green (Windy Miller?)
The Double Deckers (alll aboard.....all aboard....etc)
Why Don't You? (Used to wear the striped anti-doris sock)
The Bananna Splits (Tra-la-la, la-la-la-la, Tra-la-la, la-la-la-la)
Aah, nostalgia ain't wot it used to be.

RENTAGHOST
rentaghost.mp3 [643 Kb MP3 file] 44kHz : 16 bit mono
Sit back and enjoy the start and end variations of Timothy Claypole's advertisement for the services of his spooks-for-hire firm. Lovely use of the harpsichord, and an-actually-rather-chilling evil laugh at the end.

OMG! All these programme names are bringing back soooo many memories. Why Don't You - I watched it religiously as a kid and always dreamed of joining the gang. Also wanted to join the Double Deckers.
Also loved the Banana Splits - I'm not going to be able to get that tune out of my head now.
Lofty13
23-03-05, 09:10 PM
Great memories
Reading about Screentest reminded me of something I liked to watch.
I think it was presented by Chris Kelly, and was called Clapperboard. It went behind the scenes in filmmaking, TV shows, etc.
JJ, was Michael Palin in Ripping Yarns?

Bonkers Mad!!!
23-03-05, 09:32 PM
mr ribbit, Why don't you  i got the tune in my head straight away, were you "home dinners"? cos that was on at lunch-time and in the holidays  i didnt like being "home dinners", was rubbish on the telly, Rainbow, mr Benn or me and you, you and me lots and lots for us to see
who said Space 1999? wow, i loved that program  i so badly wanna be the girl with the eyebrows, even now :hihi:
The Double Deckers (alll aboard.....all aboard....etc)
"all aboard" makes me think of the Skylark (with Noah and Nelly) and the Skylark reminds me of baba papa and i really could go on for ever now :hihi:
Mr Ribbit
23-03-05, 09:49 PM
'Home dinners' - crikey, that's a blast from the past. It's a long time since I heard that term. Yep, that was me.
And Space 1999, I mentioned it because I used to try to dream up ways of saving all of them and getting them home - it was real you know.  I wanted the Eagle Transporter that was for sale in the local post office as a kid but on 2 pence a week pocket money, I had next to no chance of ever being able to afford to breath on it (I couldn't even reach the shelf it was on in the shop), let alone take it home.
Here's one for those who don't know what I'm talking about. ;)
Bonkers Mad!!!
23-03-05, 09:54 PM
you're quite right  it was real
when i was at senior school i used to rush home at the end of the day, i used to pretend i was addicted to "Sons and Daughters" but it was really because i didnt want to miss The Moomins
Mr Ribbit
23-03-05, 10:00 PM
Ahhh, the original Moomins (not the newer version). Ribbit used to sing the Moomins song. Memories eh? :D
Here's a really rough version of the tune.

Hey everyone, check out this link for TV show tunes from the 80's.
Enjoy. ;)
Crackerjack!!
Being ancient, I remember the original with Leslie Crowther. but there were later remakes including one with Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart. My claim to, err, almost fame, was that I went to school with Sarah Hollomby, one of the girly assistants on the show.
Aaah, those halcyon days..........
I remember looking forward to Crackerjack, though it was Ed Stewart and Stu Francis in my day :D Oooh I could crush a grape
LOL @eeyore
Ah yes, but, I was still a foetus when I watched it with Leslie Crowther :hihi:
Gosh!!!!!!!!!
Crackerjack........''It's Friday. Its five to 5 and its.....Crackajacktime.......''
loved the little game they used to play with kids holding loads of prezzies, and the more they held, the more they got to take home!!!! If they dropped the prizes they got a cabbage.............''Double or Drop'' was its name!!!!!!
Yes..... Michael Palin was in Ripping Yarns.,.....................
jj
Aaawww, yes, those cabbages! They were huge, and the poor kids dropped even more things then.
Cheap game though, when you think about it......
Cheap.... but fun! :D
And a great way to stock up on veg!
Mr Ribbit
24-03-05, 07:38 PM
I used to love Crackerjack. I completely forgot about that programme you know. Memories or what!
Errrr, does anyone remember 'We are the Champions' and the Royals entering it as well? How times have changed eh?
Thanks for that link Mr ribbit, brings back many happy memories.
Battle of the planets and Fraggle Rock :D Loved them both.
Crackerjack?
Unfortunately I was at the end of the Ed Stewart era and the beginning of the Stu Francis ' I could crush a grape' era. I'll never forgive him for giving the Krankies a break
rb
I remember We Are the champions, kids from different schools working as teams to complete sort of sporty tasks :D with Ron Pickering wasn't it?
Now I think the thing you are referring to with the Royals, Mr R, was It's a Knockout  That was such a silly programme, people dressed in daft outfits trying to fill containers with coloured water, and generally falling over and looking silly - I remember Stuart Hall on that one, he had a real dirty laugh :hihi:
Funny thing is Mr Eeyore and I used to call Mr NFH "It's a Knockout" (not to his face!) as he once spent 4 hours filling a water butt in his garden from his kitcehn sink with a bucket - he'd run with the bucket, feet all over and the water would go anywhere but in the water butt :hihi: so Mr Eeyore and I used to sing the It's a Knockout theme
Kev9090
25-03-05, 05:10 PM
