Hurray!!
Got tickets today to see Derren Brown in april! I love his tv stuff and have heard great things about his live shows.
Has anyone here been to see him? No idea what to expect, but have chosen tickets strategically so hopefully won't get hauled up on stage to become convinced I am a parrot or some such thing.
That is, unless he is in cahoots with the box office staff.... :bigeyes:

lol he won't hypnotise you I'm sure. I think he's amazing, and terrifying. He's SO clever but on a level the rest of us just don't comprehend. He could really use his talent maliciously, so kudos to him for making it fun/thought-provoking instead.

Yes I do agree with you there - what was he thinking???
But I saw a repeat of it where he said he'd never do it again, so can give him the benefit of the doubt. ;)
Was a bit concerned what he might get up to in his recent "Messiah" outing, as it was trailed as a debunking of belief systems and how we can be taken in. Was releived that he didn't criticise anyone for their beliefs per se, but concentrated on some of the more questionable practices of certain US "psychics" and those who make money out of peoples' tragedy and bereavement.
You are right - he could use his skills in a very bad way, but he seems intelligent enough to respect how people make sense of the world, while pushing just enough to make that sense a bit giddy at times.

I went to a hypnotist show once - actually I think I was Paul McKenna. he started off by getting the whole audience to do some very innocuous exercises, like raising your arms in the air and stuff...from that he could tell who was susceptible to hypnotism and could select a group of people. They were seriously not plants either cos one of the people I went with got hypnotised! :o :)
It should be very intriguing for you - I hope you enjoy the show. I did and I still can't fathom how it's done! :wacko:

:) Oooh, that sounds interesting, you will have to tell us all about it when you have been...I think he is just extremely clever...and I am sure I read somewhere that there werent actually any bullets in that gun...he just did a great acting job! Im not sure if i believe that or not, I was dead scared watching it!! :o
Annabel - they were blanks :) but apparently a shot in the head at such close range would do serious damage or kill him anyway. So what the point of using blanks was, I don't know.
cinderella - I thought Messiah was the best one yet, though like you I was worried it would be a religion-bashing which though I aren't religious I wouldn't want to watch. Absolutely enthralling, it just shows what people can be made to believe so simply, IF you know how to make them.
It made a change to watch something provoking and intelligent, TV is usually so dumbed down!

Derren's amazing! Can you imagine being married to him? You'd have to honest about how much you'd spent on your new shoes. He'd just know if you were fibbing about them being in a sale!!!
It makes you wonder if there are politicians or similar who can do what he does and are maniplulating people.
I hope that you enjoy the show - I'm dead jealous!!
