 i like BANDS LIKE THE HUMAN LEAGUE/ HEAVEN 17 AND SO ON
BUT IVE ALWAYS THOUGHT IT STRANGE HOW THEY ARE PUT INTO THE PURELY"ELECTRONIC"GENRE.

WHEN MUSIC TODAY USE' S DRUM MACHINES SAMPLERS SOUND MODULES ETC
JUST AS BOTH THOSE BANDS DID WHEN IN THE VERY LATE 70'S THE LINN DRUM BECAME AVAILABLE AND FAIRLIGHT /EMULATOR SAMPLERS TOO! ITS JUST THAT THE AMOUNT OF SAMPLE TIME HAS GOTTEN LONGER AND THE BITS ARE BIGGER BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN "BETTER" MUSIC I USE SYNTHESISERS MYSELF, AND I CONSTANTLY HAVE PEOPLE NAGGING THAT IM NOT A MUSICIAN "OH THAT THING DOES IT ALL FOR YOU"
YES THERE ARE GOOD MUSIC PROCESSING ABILITYS, SEQUENCERS ON THERE BUT I HAVE TO MANIPULATE THEM ON ANALOGUE,AND DIGITAL SYSTYMS ALIKE AND I HAVE TO PLAY THE NOTES MOSTLY!!, SORRY IF THIS IS A BORING TOPIC I LIKE ELECTRONIC MUSIC EXCEPT I DRAW THE LINE AT HARD CORE DANCE AND RAVE AND THE OUT OF PROPORTION HIP HOP OF TODAY AND I DO APOLOGISE IN ADVANCE TO ANYONE WHO DOES LIKE THAT IM NOT TRYING TO BE OFFENSIVE.

Agreed Karen - you still need talent to make something worth listening to. The 70s-80s was my era for music (old codger that I am) and I think bands like the Human League were incredibly inventive in the way they used the technology. I have friends in an experimental electronic band, and again it is the sounds they make which move me, not how they make them. (Best not say who they are on here, but I think they are ace!)

Hello Karen,

I agree totally with what you said. I do not believe you are boring - in fact what you said made my day }:o)

I too am bored pooless by the people (mainly my family) droning on about wasting all that money on a synthesizer (in the days before software synths) and that it 'does it all for you'. Sure, right!

Any femme who talks of synths, 80's music, samples totally ROCKS.

Just me two-penneth worth }:o)

I'm also totally agreed on the synth/electronica - it's such great music and very inventive. The 80's were my favourite times, but there's some innovative stuff around now too, like Trademark, and Boards Of Canada... :-)

I saw The Human League just before xmas - it was the greatest gig I've ever been to!!! :-)

I loved the Human League's first two albums, Reproduction and Travelogue. I bought them on vinyl when they first came out and have the cds now. I used to play synth in many bands when I was younger. I went off the League when they split and the girls then joined. I have strange tastes!

I used to sing in a girl synth band at school & college. We were called "Mussolini's Pouting Daughters" :hihi: and, oh my word, we were truly awful!!!
However whatever we lacked in talent we made up for in our eyeliner application!!

Anyone else miss the vinyl crackle of records? CD's just aren't the same (sigh)

Oh I'm showing my age!!

Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and Lother and the Hand People. This latter group used Theramins.

Neighboured. 47 and lovin' it! (Mainly, well, except for the arthritis, etc! :hihi: )

Nice one Neighboured, I love Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream. Rubycon and Phaedra albums were way ahead of their time.
