I wonder if the wood burning was a one-off issue between the neighbours?
I know from personal experience that burning things can cause problems. My dad was once varnishing a door outside, I decided to burn some rubbish. My dad told me categorically not to burn it as embers/ ash would blow on to the varnish and stick.
Of course, being a rash eleven year old, I thought I knew best. And yes, of course, ash flew all over the door and stuck to the varnish.
