Do be careful, folks!

Severe weather forecast for Midlands.

Department of Transport says "Watch out on the roads, take care, and be very careful if driving a high sided vehicle."

Batten down the hatches, folks! :o

Oops! 12.44am it has arrived in Shropshire.

Thanks Neighboured, :)

We're on the coast in North Somerset and the weather has been very bad here as well. I'm travelling past the Midlands in the morning as I have to go to Yorkshire and Lincolnshire tomorrow.

I must confess I'm not sure I'm up to it and if the weather's that bad, it might be wiser not to travel at all. :(

The funny thingis, we were just watching a film from the video shop called "The Day After Tomorrow" which is about a global weather catastrophe caused by global warming! We didn't know if the stormy sounds were coming from the TV or outside our windows! :blush: :lol: :hihi:

Here's what I got at work this afternoon:-

West Midlands

Highways Agency (West Midlands)

DRIVERS WARNED TO TAKE EXTRA CARE IN WET AND WINDY WEATHER

With heavy rain and strong winds affecting the country, particularly in western regions, the Highways Agency is reminding drivers to take extra care on the roads over the next few days.

Drivers, especially those on two wheels or in high-sided vehicles, are advised to take extra care during the windy conditions being forecast by the Met Office, and all drivers are reminded to adjust their driving to the poor conditions.

The Highways Agency, which manages, operates and improves motorways and all-purpose trunk roads in England, offers the following advice to drivers:

* Heavy rain and spray are likely to lead to reduced visibility. Slow down and keep well back from the vehicle travelling in front - it takes longer to stop in wet weather.

* Check the latest information on weather and road conditions before you set off, and during your journey.

* Drivers of high-sided vehicles or towing caravans, and those on motorbikes, should take extra care when strong winds are forecast.

* After driving through floodwater, test your brakes before you continue driving at higher speed.

For information about weather conditions:

* The Met Office website - http://www.metoffice.gov.uk

* Local radio broadcasts

and for road conditions:

* HA website - http://www.highways.gov.uk
* Highways Agency Information Line 0845 7504030

The Highways Agency will be working with the police to ensure that disruption from accidents and incidents is minimised and traffic kept moving. Where road lanes or carriageways have to be closed for safety reasons after heavy rain, we will work together with local authorities to establish diversion routes, where appropriate, to minimise the impact to drivers.

Issued by the Highways Agency Press Office.

It looks like the West Midlands is the worst, though the East Midlands has a warning on the Met Office website, too.

Check tomorrow. If it's bad, stay home and bait Ron and Gassy. :lol: (Only joking!)

It's coming and going. Oops! Just come back again! :D

We lost TV for a while, though I think it came back on. Mrs N. hates this type of weather and is wrapped up watching the TV. :)

According to the local press, West Bromwich suffered the worst of the weather:

A major hurricane hit the West Bromwich district in the early hours of yesterday afternoon. Victims were seen wandering in the streets aimlessly muttering 'boing boing, where's the hospitul' and 'Oohh i need a kipper tie'.

The hurricane caused at least £30,000 worth of civic improvement.

Several priceless collections of mementoes from the Balearics were damaged beyond recognition. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Many locals were woken up well before their giros had arrived. Beacon Radio reported that hundreds of resident were confused and bewildered, and still coming to terms with the fact that something interesting had happened in West Bromwich.

One resident, Tracey Sharon Smith, a 15 year old mother of 5 said "It was such a shock. Me babby Chardonnay-Mercedes came running into the bedroom crying. Me youngest two, Tyler-Morgan and Megan-Storm slept through it all. I was still shaking when I was watching Trisha this morning." Apparently though, looting, mugging and car crime did carry on as normal.

The British Red Cross has now managed to ship 3000 crates of Sunny D to the area to help stricken families. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have so far found large quantities of personal belongings; mostly benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos and fine bone china from Poundstretchers.

The appeal - how you can help

This appeal is to raise money for food and clothing parcels for those unfortunate enough to be caught up in the disaster. The most needed items are Fila or Burberry Baseball hats, Kappa Shell suits, Rockport boots and any item available at Primark. Food parcels may be harder to come by but are needed just the same. These include microwave meals, ice-cream and cans of Colt 45 or Special Brew.

REMEMBER

20p buys a biro for filling out compensation forms, £2.00 buys chips, crisps and blue fizzy drinks for a family of 9, and £5.00 will buy 20 Bensons and a disposable lighter to calm the nerves of those affected.

Please dig deep. Thank you!
