Thanks TMM, :)
I think that this technology should be made legal in the UK but with strict control.
I was recently at a 'security' trade show being held in the UK and there were several people from the Far East 'demonstrating' these models - interesting that they were doing this as it is illegal for them to be bought or sold in the UK apparently (confirmed by the BBC article). I was told they just wanted to 'show' ;) them to people.
The benefits of this technology is clear from both a nuisance control in public buildings and obviously from a security aspect. The general jist of conversations I had with people about this technology was that there was a fear that criminals will use the technology to jam anything from mobile signals to GPS tracking systems when carrying out thefts, hijacks or any other crime. This is true but ironically, criminals can get their hands on this equipt easily over the internet so to a layman like myself, the law appears to work against what it is trying to protect in the first place. As this is only my opinion based on conversations with a few people within this industry, I'm sure there is a lot more to it than that. I would be interested to know what that 'more' is though and what the impact of legalising this would be.
That's my twopenneth worth anyway!
