On the radio today, I heard that the CoOp has started a scheme to try and make food labelling clearer.

They are well known for this kind of thing...

their latest attempt is to try and identify what foods are high, medium or low in fat, same with salt.

they think this will help us, the consumer, make better decisions, and I assume, from that they will know what kinds of food we prefer to buy, and whether labelling something 'low' will mean we will buy more of it.

the spokesperson said that telling us a food product has 6g of fat in it means little to us...

im quite interested to see whether this works....but i feel a bit suspicious...lots of foods labelled 'low in fat' have quite a lot of sugar instead and sometimes even more calories than 'full fat' foods....

i wondered what you all thought.

Yeah I saw this on the news and it's all very commendable - after all, I have no clue as to whether 2 g salt is high or low or what

It's all good, but a nutritionist was saying that she would like to see the same for sugar too.

Actually, I don't know what possessed me, but I tried low sugar and low salt baked beans the other day - mistake... 8-X I don't even like beans much, but these were particularly horrid!!

oops, was that off topic??

Talking of labelling, has anyone else noticed that alcoholic drinks do not list their ingredients/calorie content??

OK you are busy drinking the stuff  :drunk: , but seriously, things like alcopops - I'd like to know how much sugar is in them or if they use artificial sweeteners, but there's no info at all on most of them! :o

(PS for the record, the last time I had a drink was over two years ago!! :wine: )
