I bought this on DVD last week and settled down to watch it. I was a bit worried that listening to Aramaic would affect my ability to get into the film, but it didn't at all.
It was a gruelling 2 hours. I felt completely emotionally drained at the end. A very powerful film, IMVHO.
Anyone else seen it?

I have...it was exhausting to watch - you feel so drained. I found it incredibly moving and it made a big impression on me. I'm a Christian anyway (not a particularly good one, but I'm working on it!!) so for me the film was amazing. I can see that it might not appeal to everyone, but I'm glad that I saw it.
i also heard this film is very good... but was also warned not to watch it... i'd prolly faint :)

I keep eyeing this up at Blockbusters but haven't actually rented it yet. Still in two minds to be honest. I know this will sound like a daft question but is the film very 'Americanised'?
I don't have anything against Americans, it's just that some films that have been set in classical or biblical times can get an over the top Hollywood treatment which suits some people, but definitely doesn't suit me. What do you budding film critics think? :)

I wouldn't say it's "americanised" at all. It's VERY brutal and graphic. You almost feel as though you were there. It's very disturbing and leaves you feeling drained and emotionally exhausted. You have to be in the right frame of mind for it.
It's filmed beautifully and the attention to detail is wonderful.

Hi mr ribbit :)
I wouldn't say it's Americanized (:P) at all.
It's brutal, raw, gruesome and very down to earth.
I found it an extremely gipping film to watch, but like carri says, you really do have to be in the right frame of mind to watch it.

Thanks for the tips
I'll rent it sometime over the coming month I reckon. I've been in the mood for romantic comedies and serial killer films lately (good link there don't you think  :hihi: ) but I'm sure my serious side will take over at some point soon. :)
My Dad loaned me his precious (and particularly large) collection of Samurai films a few months ago and I haven't watched any of them yet. I feel so guilty.
Anyway, back to The Passion of Christ, I'm very glad it's been done well so I look forward to watching it. I'm also curious about how Aramaic sounds - I've never heard it.
Thanks again :flowers:

It is a very down to earth film and it was quite exhausting to watch. I was very pleased to see it. I would recomend everyone going to see it. It at least makes you think.
