If you've read it, what did you think to it?

I really enjoyed the book, the story and everything else hidden in the book. Weird.

This is what it says on amazon:

With The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown masterfully concocts an intelligent and lucid thriller that marries the gusto of an international murder mystery with a collection of fascinating esoterica culled from 2,000 years of Western history. A murder in the silent after-hours halls of the Louvre museum reveals a sinister plot to uncover a secret that has been protected by a clandestine society since the days of Christ. The victim is a high-ranking agent of this ancient society who, in the moments before his death, manages to leave gruesome clues at the scene that only his granddaughter, noted cryptographer Sophie Neveu, and Robert Langdon, a famed symbologist, can untangle.

The duo become both suspects and detectives searching not only for Neveu's grandfather's murderer, but also the stunning secret of the ages he was charged to protect. Mere steps ahead of the authorities and the deadly competition, the mystery leads Neveu and Langdon on a breathless flight through France, England and history itself. Brown has created a page-turning thriller that also provides an amazing interpretation of Western history. Brown's hero and heroine embark on a lofty and intriguing exploration of some of Western culture's greatest mysteries--from the nature of the Mona Lisa's smile to the secret of the Holy Grail. Though some will quibble with the veracity of Brown's conjectures, therein lies the fun. The Da Vinci Code is an enthralling read that provides rich food for thought. --Jeremy Pugh, Amazon.com

Synopsis
Robert Langdon, Harvard Professor of symbology, receives an urgent late-night call while in Paris: the curator of the Louvre has been murdered. Alongside the body is a series of baffling ciphers. Langdon and a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, are stunned to find a trail that leads to the works of Da Vinci - and further. The curator, part of a secret society named the Priory of Sion, may have sacrificed his life to keep secret the location of a vastly important religious relic hidden for centuries. It appears that the clandestine Vatican-sanctioned Catholic sect Opus Dei has now made its move. Unless Landon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine code and quickly assemble the pieces of the puzzle, the Priory's secret - and a stunning historical truth - will be lost forever.

It's also got its own website ----> The Da Vinci Code (http://www.danbrown.com/novels/davinci_code/reviews.html) :)

I bought it the other day, purely because of all the hype, and then I was up until 4.30am on Weds night/Thurs morning reading it!!!
I'm about halfway through, so currrently dodging any reviews, etc , but I'm hoping to have finished it before Thursday's prog.

I have to say I think its a great read - I've read a lot of stuff over the years on some of the topics, but its good to read them in the style of a thriller.

Won't say anymore until I've read it. :bookread:

(other than its only £4.99 in WH Smiths - bargain!!)

(And this MUST BE the last novel I read for a few months as I restart my studies next month - argghh) :banghead: :banghead:

Hi,
Only just picked up on this thread.

Yep, read the book, could not put it down. So interesting, though a bit gory in places. We have the illustrated book too which is helpful, this was a christmas present for my hubby.

We were away on holiday for a long time over christmas so myself, hubby and eldest son read it on the beach, which was really wierd in itself!!!!

Mother and father in law are catholics so therefore we did not offer it to them!!!

We have Angels and Demon, hubby just reading that one now.

absolutely fantastic book, i think all told it took me 3 days to read it as I just couldn't put it down when i started reading it.
Have also read angels and demons and was the same with that, read it in one weekend flat LOL. absolutely gripping stuff.
have also read Deception point which altho i thought it was a good read, didn't quite grip me as much as Digital Fortress which was another i just couldn't put down.

Incidentally, where i was born is just down the road from Rosslyn Chapel. Went back to visit my parents last summer (as we do every year) and finally visited Rosslyn chapel, i felt a very strange atmosphere in there and the apprentice pillar is esquisitely designed.
Completly fascinating stuff in itself LOL :D

Hi Alyssia,

Isn't it funny when you read these books and you find out such interesting things, as Rosslyn Chapel, I didn't know it was there, have not been to see it, as it's miles away but if I was like you, course I'd go and check it out.

Glad you enjoyed all the other books. Have not read any of them yet, but am waiting to do so.
