I have 2 budgies who regularly clash beaks like a swordfight. What does this mean? Shortly before and after she grooms him!

The female also kicks the male!

Is she just an aggressive bird or is this normal?

Spot on Moby,

We used to breed and show ours too. Luv is in the air. Does her nails need clipping or maybe she has Scaly feet or something like that. I seem to remember it being foot mites. A vet will put you right on that.

GG.

She doesn't 'kick' anywhere else in the cage. It only happens when she gets into an 'argument' with the male. She kicks him and then s********es her beak on the perch in a scratching-type motion before 'swordfighting' with him!

It is very funny to watch but I feel sorry for poor Chipper.

We used to have zebra finches, they used to pull each others feathers out and peck each other before "getting fruity"

It was all very strange, but they enjoyed it!

Moby:

No I do not breed them. They have never shown any inclination to do so. They seem happy enough eating their millet and 'sword fighting'.

LOL Moby, what were you supposed to do, keep the guinea pigs apart?? ;)

(By the way, yes I love the male zebra finches call, gorgeous isn't it)

Because nobody would believe me that she actually kicked the male, I filmed her doing so.

It is a great comedy tape! I wish I could get it onto the PC to show everybody!! :hihi:
