Hi everyone as you know I have a 17yr old daughter :o

She likes dancehall reggae

She loves Elephant man

She brought down a film for us to watch :(

All poised in front of the TV with popcorn ..we began to watch what turned out to be a jamaican yardie film....

Guns drugs the worst type of violence the language OMG the language...I thought I should put a stop to this ...then I looked at their faces and I saw what could only be described as complete concentration..so I sat down and watched it and at the end we were all crying..it was so sad

It was a very moral bound story of two boys growing up in the kingston ghetto starving and hustling until they become Shottas ...they then go to america to play with the big boys in Miami.
One boy is not really bad and he only kills other gangsters and gives money away to poor people the other wants all the high life ...
Ofcourse they both end up dead to bob marley singing redemption song..
but I found it really moving and the kids explained to me that is what happens when you break the law and go the wrong way..
I felt humbled by their 9 and 11 yr old wisdom.
If you ever get the chance and I know its hard to get ..try and watch it ..the are some very funny bits in it aswell ..and the music is good..really good especially if you like a mix of old and new reggae..
Im not sure if it was a music video with a story ,or a story with lots of music and stars ...so did not know whether to post under film or music...
and it has subtitles!!!

Sounds interesting sally and a real look at something different :)

When a story feels like its "real" it seems so much better i think.

Some ppl grow up in such different worlds!

Thanx vernon ...sort of relates to the sports relief thread ...how we take so much for granted ..yet I know a boy who grew up in kinston JA did the right thing and when he came here recently couldn't understand how we have a meal in McDonalds
surely you eat chips or burgher not both ...as he said
"Boy you people have to much money..."
