View Full Version : God-send food
I was pondering today, things are pretty grim at home just now and I don't have the time to cook as I normally would.
So I have tried to get really handy, extremely quick to cook stuff indoors that tastes good and isn't too bad on the nutrition front.
I have discovered that frozen mash potato is just brill - a couple of mins in the micro and it's ready
Then, I resorted to 'micro chips' ( ) and to my surprise, they were not too bad and actually just the right portion size for one child :D .
Also fresh pastas - boil the kettle, water in a pan and in 4 mins, a meal if you add a stir through sauce. :) .
Anyone else got any ideas for 'god-send' foods? :)
I bought these godsend noodle things today..they come with a litle bit of veg..prawns..chicken and ready cooked noodles with a sauce..they took about 5 mins to fry then you just mix it together..really nice...and only £1.99
West Indian patties..mmm..just put them in microwave or oven..you get meat curry, chicken fish or veg..36 for £12..my storeroom emergencies..
the winner though is always scrambled egg on toast..
Iceland do a mean sweet and sour chiacken, very quick and extremely (surprisingly) tasty :D
Chicago Town pizzas, quick and easy, add a bit of extra cheddar on top to make them scrumplicious. :)
As HN said, the big breakfast tins, I also love beans and sausages on toast.
Toasted sugar bread I love for a quick fix, put a piece of bread under the grill and toast one side, when thats done take it out and spread the untoasted side with butter, then sprinkle sugar over the butter and pop it back under the grill until the sugar goes all crispy, ultimate comfort food
our local morrisons supermarket does quite a few ready meals, I know loads of people who on a sunday go and buy a full cooked chicken and then a big couple of tubs of fresh salad
all you do then it tip it on the plate :)
they also do different chicken bits and sausages etc, all ready cooked and hot
yesturday at work I bought a little layered salad and a cheese pastie, dinner sorted :)

God sent food.......has to be eggs.
Boiled, fried, scrambled, poached, omelette, on toast, in salads, sandwiches, on pizzas, with sausage, or chips, for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
They're cheap, quick, natural and go with loads of other foods. As a veggie, they're great too, as they are packed with protein.
And I haven't even started on the chocolate egg varieties!
:)
Yum, Beth, Morrisons have a mean "hot food" counter, we travel to buy their potato kriss-kuts, heaven!

I agree with BC, if you have eggs in the fridge you can always make a nourishing and quick meal.
Also in our house we would simplywither away if we did not have tuna...I even dish it up to my cats if i ever run out of their food....
pot noodles??? 8-X grim...why bother when you can buy supernoodles instead????  .
and a big breakfast in a tin...eeeeek... that reminds me of a nasty incident in tescos once...many years ago..I might as well bore you all with the story
i had popped in to get a few bits and headed for the 'basket only' queue...i noticed there was a basket on the floor in the queue but thought, as it was empty, that it maybehad just been dumped there, so i stepped in front of it and kind of shoved it to the side...next thing I know this MASSIVE bloke in biking leathers barges me sideways, knocking all the wind out of me..and roared at me for jumping the queue...then he brandished a tin of the Big Breakfast' stuff in my face , effed and blinded , and shoved me again so he could resume what was obviously his rightful place in the queue...by virtue of the fact he had left an empty basket there :wow:
well, I can tell you folks, once I had got my breath back, I am afraid i let rip with a tirade of my own .. :spor: .i was young and impetuous in those days and not even a 6ft 5 in biker was gonna intimidate me! no siree, I am WOMAN, I am STRONG, YEAH!!
whereupon he turns round and says to me:
'listen you, you BEEPing piece of BEEPing BEEP, if you dont shut the BEEP up, I am gonna shove this tin right up your BEEPITY BEEP.....
even after he had paid for his sodding tin of grub he was still cursing me as he stamped off in his size 16 biking boots....ooh the joys of living in north london.....
I kind of went off 'Big Breakfast' after that....
Oh dear Annabel, supermarket rage eh?? :P
Just a quick few lines to say thanks to all for the suggestions.
believe it or not I have tried a few...namely the breakfast in a tin :wow: which was surprisingly not that bad  .
Also the 3 minute noodles with cheese sprinkled on top was ok too.
I have also discovered rice in pouches (not a bad deal if they are on a special offer) - takes only 2 mins in the micro - brilliant and some are quite substantial with veggies and the like :) .
fresh pasta is good too
thanks all :notworthy:
PS any more suggestions?? :( :)
mmm must have stash for me is aubergine pesto, mushrooms, marinated tofu and pasta.. very very quick, easy, filling, and nutritious :)
i guess you have to be a vegan to get excited about that eh? ;)
