Steven King the writer
I enjoyed reading Carrie but with the exception of one or two others the titles I can't recall ,a lot of his other books were fairly rubbishy ...does this sound a bit snobbish. any other opinions??
oops I've posted this in the wrong place could someboby move it to a horror writers section or something please.

Hi Christina :)
It would only sound snobbish if you were saying that you wouldn't read his books as they're so commonly loved and well read ;) (which you're not!)
I really like many of his books (I think we have just about all of them). His short story collections are great (Skeleton Crew, Different Seasons, Night Shift). I also love many of the films that have been adapted from his work, including the Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, The Green Mile, Salem's Lot, Carrie, The Shining, Misery.....the list goes on
Although as with any successful author, not all of his books will be able to live up to his reputation.
Personally, I'm a big fan. He's never been afraid to push the boundaries and he's given me many a good fright

I enjoy Stephen Kings books, but I prefer some of his earlier works such as Firestarter, Pet Semetary, Carrie, Misery, etc :)
Agree with BC that his short stories are very good, I loved Four Past Midnight (Wasn't the Langoliers made into a film?) and Night Shift.
Only one I can't do is Salems Lot - there is a picture on the side of the book of a vampire, huge teetch, nasty eyes, freaks me out big time - so the book has been turned the other way on the shelf, only read it once and it scared the daylights out of me - I listened for scratching noises on the window for weeks :o

Well - more of a bad TV movie really.
I think I still have a copy of it (somewhere!)

Oh me too! :o In fact, just thinking about that makes me look at the window!
I'm a fan. I loved "The Green Mile". "Misery" was the first book that hubbie and I read together. I've been buying his books for years.
People give him a hard time because he's popular... I don't get it. Would they like him more if he didn't sell so many books?

has anybody read his "dark tower" series? i have just finished the sixth book and the concluding part isnt released until september. :frown:
it always feels like he finished each part in the middle of a sentence. the first part was published as a short story in 1978 so it must have been annoying for people who read it then. :hihi: i read the first 4 in 1997 and had to wait 6 years for the next book  the sixth came out on 4/6/04 and i really tried to make it last until september but i have failed  if you like Kings work you'll love this series and you would want to read 'salems lot, in fact u would want to read every king book again, looking for links. this last one has made me want to read "it" which has never appealed to me b4. but then neither had 'salems lot and i read that this year ;)

the final part of the dark tower series was released on tuesday  .
got it yesterday (not eating this week) and couldnt put it down once i started it. havent looked at it this morning, i want to make it last till the end of the weekend. i'm a bit worried in case the ending is rushed cos he wrote the last 3 quite quickly considering when the series started
