Remember a few months ago when we had a flurry of 'moggy' posts? :)

You all heard about Molly and babe and Brian, our one eyed cat. Sadly Brian took very ill last night :( I stayed up all night with him but by this morning it was apparent he was quite far gone so we took him to the vet who put him to sleep :(

The vet said it was either acute kidney failure or poisoning. I think it was the former because Brian didn't go out very much and rarely wandered out of the garden.

Even Molly seemed concerned about him. She is still wearing a 'bucket' on her head after being spayed last Wednesday, but she still managed to give her old friend a gentle grooming around his ears. Little Boo (not so little any more) was more concerned about ripping up newspapers...ah, the insensitivity of the young ;)

He was lovely friend and companion and I'll miss him so much :(

I hope everybody else's little friends are all in good health :)

Aww Misty, :( I am so very sorry to hear that.

it really is like losing a member of the family, I am glad you were able to help him and he didnt hurt too much.

I hope that Molly and Boo are able to cope quickly to the gap in their lives, and course you.

That's the way pets should go, peacefully with their loved ones around them giving comfort. Not given to strangers, because they cannot be bothered or have work. Or abandoned on the street, for a younger one.

GG.

Hi Misty,

Sorry to hear your sad news. It's so sad to loose a family pet, no matter how old they are.

I hope that you are taking care (and of course making a fuss of Molly and Boo ;) )

Take care

Sorry to hear that Misty :( , it is awful to lose a much loved part of your family.

I know someone who has had exactly the same thing happen to them today too :( .

I lost my 'baby' two years ago this week and I still miss her now :( .

Hugs to Molly and Little Boo, and all the other cats out there :flowers:

Hi Misty

Oh that's so sad, I feel rotten for you  .

I still think about all my departed pets even now, many years on. It certainly leaves a gap when they go.

Take care and give the other two a big hug from me :)

Misty, don't really know what to say, but so very sad for you today in losing Brian .....and have to join you in sadness as I had to take one of my brood, Heidi to be put to sleep (peacefully) because of advanced kidney failure (that I knew nothing of) today. Very, very upsetting....and as you say, like losing a good friend.

Glad to hear that Molly was doing her duty (even with a contraption round her neck)...I think they know. Heidi was nursed through last night and this morning by her sisters :)

Hugs to yourself, and Molly and not-so-little-Boo,

Sapph, Lily and the remainder of the menagerie :)

Misty and Sapph - so sorry to learn of your news, they become part of your family and everything else around it, so it's tough to lose a pet. :(

Here's to the others and their good health. :)

sorry to hear your news Misty and Sapph...

Itrs awful when pets get ill and you have to make that awful decision, I ahve only ever had one cat die 'naturally' on me, all the rest had to be taken to the vets and its one of the hardest things to face up to doing.

God bless them both :angel::angel:

Thank you all so much and Sapph I'm so sorry to hear about Heidi :(

I'm trying to remember the good times, the funny little things he got up. He had a couple of close scrapes in his life and I was hoping this was going to be another and that he would get better. :(

Some people might think I'm being silly, crying over a pet but I know you all understand :)

Molly and Boo send love to all you other feline friends out there :)

Thank you to everyone also for their kind words. I thought I'd escaped another cat loss when Lily survived her dreadful accident last year, but it obviously was just Heidi's time to go :(, and although it was a horrible decision, it was the right one. I had a little burial service for her today.

Misty, I'm also trying to remember all the good times, and I know you too will not forget such a good friend. How could anyone reading this think it's silly to cry over a loss - it's understandable when you lose anyone/anything close to you.

I appreciate even more my remaining pets, and it reminds me not to take them for granted. I have a little vision of Heidi and Brian looking after each other in cat heaven, and I like my vision ;)

:o Oh no, not you too Sapph

I feel so dreadful for you both, what a shock. :(

I am not surprised there are tears, honestly, I didn't go to school for two days when my first dog died   I still feel the hurt even now!

Take care all :flowers:

Aww, Sapph, that's a beautiful vision :) The one consolation I have is that I was with him until almost the end. Hubby took him to the vet and stayed with him til he fell asleep. Hubby tries to make out he's not affected but I've noticed a little tear in his eye when he thinks I'm not looking :)

Here's a little pic of Brian so Heidi will recognise him :)

Misty, my consolation too, and glad hubby was there with Brian in his last minutes :). I'm happy that my vision sounds a good one to you too. Thank you for the pic, Misty.......a match made in cat heaven  I have spent all night trying to get a picture of Heidi on here, and failed dismally. However, she is a delicate little thing, in chintz pastel shades...kind of pale grey and peach! There can't be many like her ;) . Hope the description allows him to find her. She probably arrived there about 2.40pm, if it helps.

Oh Misty and Sapph, I am so so upset for you. I cry if one of my fish dies, I'm terrible.

I fully understand what you are going through - a pet is a family member, my two dogs are my children, people must think I'm a nutcase cos I talk to them when we are out for a walk (granted its quite often "drop that"). My mums dogs are extended family, like cousins. We lost one of her dogs 2 years ago, Skinny (his name was Jet, but as he was a greyhound, everyone called him Skinny!) and I still miss him, he was a lovely dog, only 5 when he got cancer of the larynx, his surrogate mum pined so badly that we got 2 rescue pups for her to look after or we may have lost her too.

Animals are friends, family, companions, give unconditional love, and are always there.

Sapph, Heidi sounds beautiful I'm sure Brian will be delighted to meet her :)

I'ts so lovely to be able to talk about him among friends who understand. Once again, thank you all you lovely people :)

Aww, eeyore, that's such a sad story but now two more dogs have a home and that must count for a lot :) I hope they are all doing well :)

Misty, Two pups (now two years old, still pups!) are doing super! They are perfectly delightful horrors!

My mum has no lawn - but some very interesting small ponds though! Every cupboard has a latch! Dishes in the sink are washed immediately - or Brandy will do them! No wooden spoon is safe! And as for the door mat - what do you mean it doesn't live in the garden spending its life being shaken to death??? :P

We love our pets! :P

Always remember just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies who has been especially close to some one here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who has been left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks in the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.......

Take care

Aw, sorry to hear that Hazelnut. :(

I don't really know what you can say to the kids, but I did like the idea of the Rainbow Bridge. ;)

Oh no, HN, what a nightmare :( .

If it's any help, I had one of the nursery school guinea pigs die on me (we were looking after them during the school hols) right in front of my two boys who were 4 and 6 at the time :o

It was really sudden, no warning at all! (only when I told the teacher, she nonchalently mentioned it was a really old guinea pig and they were a bit worried about it!)

I had no chance to cobble up any sort of story, just had to be blatantly honest with them about what had happened. I think it went OK, no long lasting traumas.

And it helped them that we buried it with a little service in the back garden and they made a little wooden cross to mark the 'grave' .

Blimey, I was more upset then the boys, I think

Aw, HN, the poor guinea pig :( I hope you found a way of breaking it to the kids so they weren't too heartbroken? I also like the sound of Rainbow Bridge, and maybe some kind of ceremony helps some of us? (me included).

In case you haven't guessed, I'm sitting here with tears streaming down my face. HN, I'm so sorry about your little guinea pig :( It's amazing how our pets leave such a huge void when they go :( But I think we're all the better for having them in our lives.

But after reading Eeyore's Rainbow Bridge I'm filled with hope :) Thanks Eeyore, that was really beautiful :)

HN, only just caught up....glad you had a little ceremony. It gives everyone chance to mark the passing of a pet they will miss :( . Hope the kids are OK, and you too, it's just not nice to have happen.

Misty- one for Brian  I just really wanted to put a picture of Heidi to go with the one of Brian; it seemed only fitting. (And a big thank you to the person who helped me do it ;) ),

i'm Sorry to hear about that sapph, i think heidi looks like a nice cat :)

Sorry to hear about brian too misty, i think he looks nice as well :)

sorry to hear about the other ones too all,
my grandparents had a fantastic dog called brandy too, who died of old age... and my parents used to have a very brilliant dog called sadie, our pets have distinct personalitys don't they,
still feel a twinge about sadie, for situational reasons and stuff my mom had no choice but to find a new home for her, which is nice because i'm sure the new owners looked after her, she was a great dog though... shepardly and those little character things which make em unique.

Thank you for that, Vern....she was indeed a lovely cat (both in looks and in nature) ....I hope she's doing OK up there in cat heaven with Brian :)

I have since had a planting ceremony, and reckon the cemetary bit of my garden will look nice when it flowers. Heidi is buried with her two "brothers", and the rest of the household and I pay our respects weekly :)

I remember all of my cats with a smile on my face - they were all different characters, and it's always good to have memories of them. So, yes, I agree with what you say there Vern ;)
