We have two of these standard bushes and have lost the name tag and haven't a clue what they are called!!! They are now flowering profusely and Mr O thinks it's the time to cut them back, but I like the flowers and if he does that they will just look "green" I just need to a name to find out how and when to trim them back ...

They look to me like Viburnum Tinus. They are a winter flowering shrub with beautiful white flowers that light up the darkest winter days. To me it would be senseless destruction to ruin a dazzling winter display by cutting off such fabulous flowers. The shrub is tough and will survive come what may but people normally want to enjoy the flowering season of a shrub rather then cut off the flowers for the sake of mere tidying. You can always trim it later on in the spring after it has finished flowering.
