Hi all,

I've just treated myself to a breadmaking machine (Morphy Richards 48280), currently sitting at work counting down the hours until I can go home and try it out. (got one as a friend of ours had a machine - the bread she made was lovely and half the price of a loaf from the supermarket)

Anyone else got a breadmaker? If so, what sort of recipes do you use? I'm going to try one of those 'readymix' things first time around - to see how it goes.

FF

P.S. Will post the results of my 'bread trial' tommorrow :)

Hi FF,

We generally use the mixes, but they are still lovely :eat:

My sister makes gorgeous onion bread with hers (but she is a professional chef  ) :D I'll get the recipe from her ;)

Make my own (if I ever do it at all!). However, have tasted a friend's rosemary bread done in a breadmaker, and was very impressed.

I can sense the excitement from here...try to contain yourself til you get home, FF :P
Hope all goes well :D

No machine in our house for making bread, I do it all by hand. I was a bit worried the first time I piled flour all over my worktop and then poured a jug of water over it! :wow: Thought I would end up flooding the kitchen floor!

But it worked a treat! :D I can now do cheesy bread, herby bread, onion bread, garlic bread... Very cheap to make and freezes well too.

Enjoy your evening FF :D

Hey Freaky

Hope the breadmaking went well :eat:

It's delicious!

My OH used to use the thing quite a lot, and warns...you must do the quantities exactly as it says and add the ingredients in a specific order or it won't work

Have to admit, I have never used it myself and now it is sadly gathering dust in the kitchen

This might just inspire me to have a go! :D

Well ... here are the results

LOAF 1

I got home last night, ripped open the packaging and set up the machine, as per the instructions.

For my first loaf I chose a parmisan and tomato bread mix made by 'Wrights'. Not wanting to be greedy, I used the recipe for the 1 lb loaf on the packet (breadmaker version), 250g mix, 160 ml water. All the 'handmade' recipes that came with the machine instruct you to place the water in first, then the flour, so that is what I did - switch on to 'Fastbake prog1' and off we go!

During the kneading process its not looking too good - very sloppy mixture in the baking pan - getting rather worried at this point.

58 minutes later for fastbake and *DING* its ready.

Ohhhhh dear ... It looked more like a pancake than a loaf when I turned it out :(

Right .... try again

LOAF 2

So as not to give up at this stage, I revised my ideas and started on the second loaf.

Saving the parmisan mix for later, I crack open a 'cheese and onion' mixture from 'Wrights'.

Ok, this time I'm using the whole lot - 2 lb loaf recipe, 500g - 215 ml water

I also decied to see what happens on the normal 'basic' setting. This takes 3 hrs, so I went to do some decorating in between.

It started to look good as soon as the kneading began - nice lump of dough rolling around in the pan. It rose very well before the baking began.

*DING* 3 hours and a coat of gloss later its ready.

Much better - crisp crust, nice bouncy interior - 'proper job' !

Very happy - will try a plain white next time :)

FF you creased me up with that first pic of your loaf hee hee! :hihi:
but there you go see how good your second one was, excellent!

i also have a bread maker, which my hubby won in a raffle at work, and then tried to give me it as an Xmas pressie the year b4 last (much pursing of lips and sucking of teeth going on now at the memory)..the cheek of him!

needless to say i have never used the thing, even though it looks very nice, morphy richards like yours....

a colleague at works never buys bread, always makes her own and really likes the warburtons range of ready mixes...she never buys anything else now...shes always asking me when i am going to use my bread maker..but i have something against that machine...i dunno what...oh yeah, it was a raffle prize my hubby tried to give me as an xmas pressie , tchhahhh!
