Hurricane Irene has hit the Bahamas on Thursday and is forecast to cause disruption to much of the U.S. East Coast starting early Saturday.
Most airlines have issued waiver policies to allow travellers to change existing bookings without penalty.
Amtrak has cancelled most train services operating south of Washington on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in anticipation of Hurricane Irene. Amtrak services north of Washington are not affected at this point, but more cancellations may be necessary in the coming days.
The New York Metropolitan area is likely to experience the worst conditions on Saturday night and Sunday with hurricane conditions possible, along with destructive winds, heavy flooding rain, and storm surge with coastal flooding.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will send out further updates if the situation changes.
