Freaky Friday - the latest one with Jamie Lee Curtis - it was much better than i thought it would be, in fact it was great :)

Thats an impressive number troika!!! ..beats mine :D

i have managed a collection totalling around 30! thankfully only one or two "dud" ones and even they were okay, i havent bought a dvd for....must be close to a year! ..same for CD's ... ;)

i'm being econominiminacal !

i remember being forced to watch "its a wonderful life" at school when something was cancelled, it turned out to be good :) (the same thing happened and we saw "groundhog day" too :P )
I havent seen con air ...i think john cusack is a good actor type fellow too, "dreamey" i'm not sure :P! ..he was good in "the thin red line"....and high fidelity...and prolly loads of films he was in that i havent seen.

<john cusack> thanx your a good actor too!

...and BIG was a great film hehe  ....chop-sticks a-go-go ..

have played that on the floor at work!!! ..the lack of a built-in floor piano lessened the effect somewhat, but not far off

Moulin Rouge :D - great film, all bright and glitzy. Every time I see it I'm amazed at how they sung all those songs. :D

I always find "Miss Congeniality" really makes me happy. In fact I only have to think about Bill ********ner saying his lines at the end of the pageant when Miss America is crowned :D If you've seen it you'll know what I mean :)

Also "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion" is happyfying. It reminds me of my best friend and I... though we're not quite so dumb ;) And the ending is just what you want to see. I love Janeane Garofalo's character in this, and the one she has in "Mystery Men", she's hilarious!

"Erin Brokovich" cheers me up for that reason too, even more in fact cos they stick it to the big guys  And I also first saw it on a flight to Hawaii so it always reminds me of that *happysigh*

I liked John Cusack in "Grosse Point Blank", excellent funny film. He's just not handsome or anything but there's something about him!!

Oh oh... and seriously happyfying is "The Full Monty", for a start it's set in Yorkshire and I'm a Yorkshire lass born and bred. It's funny and I first saw it when my now hubs came over to England and proposed  He was going to move to England first and his parents saw the film and thought all of England was like that and I was moving their only child into poverty. It was quite funny when they came over for Christmas and drove through Sheffield and thought it was a great city. Good job we live somewhere acceptable to them and they've not yet seen Bradford

Right, I'll shut up now!! ;)

Hey Antiquity....on the theme of Yorkshire, I am also from Yorkshire, and am sure that my family in the US who haven't been here think northern England is just as they have seen it portrayed in films! Between the Full Monty, Brassed Off and East is East, they must have some strange mixed perceptions of what life is like up here

All great "feel-good" films tho'!

Fave films, ooh I love films!

Love "The Breakfast Club" - great teen movie, even though I'm not a teen, and "Pretty in Pink"

"A Time to Kill" - really made me think, thought it was superb.

Great fan of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and "The King and I", I just love those old musicals.

"Jungle 2 Jungle" with Tim Allen I thought was so funny, lifts my spirits every time

and

"Mulan" - cracking cartoon, really funny, I love Mushu the dragon.

In fact I love films, got over 600 videos and 100 DVD's, movie-aholic here!!

I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the film I like. It starred Horst Bucholst as Johann Strauss.

There was one scene where Rossano Brazzi's mistress left him for Strauss and he was wandering through his big house with tears streaming down his face. It was so sad :(

Gone with the Wind - I loved it!!

Anything starring Tom Hanks or Sandra Bullock is a must-see for me.

Goodbye Mr Chips (the original) :D a film full of mixed emotions.

Anything with Susan Sarandon, Thelma & Louise is great. :D Dead Man Walking is a very powerful film with an excellent soundtrack.

Goodbye Mr Chips (the original)

Is that the one starring Robert Donat as Mr.Chips? If so I remember it well because we used to tease my mum about RD being her heart-throb. She had an autographed photo of him that she kept for years

is that one about mr chips involve an orphanage? ..certainly have heard of it being good!

i think those susan sarandon ones good too! ...dead man walking... [not seen thelmas louise (yet ;))] ..i remember seeing almost all of a weepy one about susan (were on first name terms) being a mom who has cancer and there is a stepmom, like...moving in with her family ... it was called stepmom... !

and "anywhere but here" :P not the best :P film ever but okay

Thelma and Louise

There is no orang-u-tan :P
Would that detract from anyone's enjoyment of the film?

Watch, and see.

Possibly enhanced by a vodka or too.

This is a really sad film  , but a happy one too (in a weird kinda way ;) ).

I'm pretty sure it's on terrestrial telly this week, so if you've not seen it and want to watch a weepy, this is your film.

I've just looked and it's on tonight at 9.00 pm on Channel 4. :)

for me "Sense & Sensability" - so much heartache and such great endings all round! a perfect girly movie - lots of choc to be eaten whilst watching it! and you get to drool over both Alan Rickman and Greg Wise!!!!

loved all the LotR films - even if I did get a numb bum and tried to leave about 4 times when i thought it was over at the end - oh.. and then one more goodbye - lol!

pretty woman always makes me laugh except for the naff ending line from Julia R!! "rescuses him right back" naff naff naff

in my current situation (not being able to walk across my floor for fear of upsetting the neighbours (Im a noisy neighbour - apparently!)) watching movies is great - i can sit on the sofa all pm and not move! is doing nothing for my waistline! or bed sores (joke!)

I like some of those costume dramas too! .. i think i have seen sense and senseability, but i have been asleep since then can't remember :P

i have seen a few "merchant ivory" films .. the ones i've seen have been good, "the wings of the dove" rings a bell, and "a room with a view".

i had the SAME thing too when watching ROTK ehehe... after the third "oh that was go.. oh theres more" i got bored and turned it off.
Like those films though very good, some little bits in each one which had a little something "extra" in them, action bits alright too ;) , mr jackson knows how to build up the scenes, he should get an award :P

[hmm... the "P" button on my keyboard is being very stubborn, its simply refusing to allow a "p" to appear on the screen unless i give it a firm press!]

vern :)

[i think thats the first time i've done that at the end of a post too]

You can always try and prise the P button off (a fork usually works) and see if cleaning underneath the button helps?

Or is this not recommended?

On your advice i gave it a gentle teasing with a nice orange biro, but it was having none of it :(

I believe this is not recommended unless with the use of Personal Protective equiPement, and in the comPany of a resPonseable Person, and there does not aPPear to be such Person so i'm a bit Perturbed (sPPelling?)

Although now it seems to be werking okay, thanks BC :D!

I enjoyed that film too fedupjo ... was good how the story unfolded and changed and i didn't see it coming!

Not seen any new films for ages.. just watched a couple of ones again...

"Bringing up baby" is a great film!.. and i really like "the third man"... liked the realness of not having the soppy ending.

katherine hepburn is just so good in bringing up baby! .. who couldn't like her character in that!

I absolutely love MEN OF HONOR with Cuba Gooding.
Such a powerful true story.
And Robert De Niro plays such a great part.

I also like THE FIRM with Tom Cruise. You are willing him along whilst everyone in the world seems to be after him.

ARMEGGEDDON always brings tears to my eyes when Bruce Willis says goodbye for the last time to his little girl. Boo hoo. always has me reaching for the hankies.

MEET THE PARENTS also has me on the floor howling. Again Robert De Niro plays a blinder.

MURIELS WEDDING. I love this because of all the ABBA songs. ( sad I know)

BUSTER. I like true stories and think Phil Collins was not too bad in it.

UNCLE BUCK. John Candy is so funny and I think this was one of his best. Wearing evil kids down was good to see.

OOOOH i could go on all night.
We have a collection of 250 DVDs and watch a few each week if we can.

:jump:Got to be Braveheart for me! I am a wee scottish lassie born in Ayrshire - Fraser was my maiden name - came to south when I was 3! Lost my accent, but still have a fiesty Scots nature! But then I love all the oldies - War films and Jungle Book and Dumbo - remember the horrid other Elephant mums being nasty to Dumbos mum? Big softy me really
