By ROBIN PERRIE

A DAD went to collect his daughter from a neighbour's home after being told thugs were causing trouble in the street - and they battered him to death.

Two men punched and kicked John Collins, 55, before stamping on his head. He managed to stagger home covered in blood, but died in hospital.

He had gone to pick up Laura, seven, after a neighbour rang to say two whisky-swigging men were yelling abuse and kicking over bins - with a woman egging them on.

A family friend said: "Apparently one connected with a punch and they kicked him. They were walking away when the woman shouted something and they went back to finish him off.

"There couldn't have been an easier target than John. He was 55 but looked older and he wasn't a big man so wouldn't have put up much of a fight."

Karen Warham, 44, who was looking after Laura when the attack happened in Holmfirth, West Yorks, said: "John was a lovely man and he was devoted to his little girl."

Police have arrested three men - two of 30 and one of 29 - and a 23-year-old woman.

Absolutely dreadful - reading this has bought back memories when the same happened to my son - he was lucky that he survived the kicking and stamping on his head; but was hospitalised for a 5 days.

They'll get five years max, but the woman will get off with a warning.
