The fish i am holding is a Pike - a very good example of one too!

Do anglers put fish back in the water?
I'm sure that a catch of that size is meant to be congratulated, but I'm afraid I don't know how I feel about it.
My great aunt wrote a story (published) about Percy Pike and I feel very sorry for fish caught by anglers ever since reading it. :(
You did put it back. Didn't you?

Flippin' 'eck, I'd love to see the size of the one that got away ;)
Is Mr.Pike still at large, eating ducklings? :(

Hey, each to their own here! No-one's going to shout at no-one. ;) - ARE THEY!
We do welcome healthy debate here at NFHiB on a huge range of issues (I'm just not ready yet for the one where I disclose the fact I ate Rudolph  or the camel   ).

Yes, it was put back and they certainly do eat water fowl when they get as large at that one!

There's a big lake between Capel Curig and Snowdon and a couple of years ago we noticed that quite a few black headed gulls had either no feet or one foot. It was very sad and I assumed they may have had a run in with a pike.
Could be wrong of course ;)

Hi everyone,
My fishing is my escape, it helps me get away from the curtain twitching old codgers and their son :)
I have not heard of this radio show - I'm in Sheffield so I may not be able to get transmition reception this far North - sounds like you have an interest in fishing Annabel - maybe you should try it some time?
As for size, not going there! LOL!
As for what a pike will eat - if they think thay can swallow it - they will try. A pike can eat 1/4 of its own body weight in a single meal (I have teenagers that can do the same too!!!!) but that is nothing to a Wells Catfish 50% of its body weight :) so the next time you are paddling or if you have a small rat type dog that likes to swim in reservoirs - be afraid - BE VERY AFRAID!!!! Hehehe!
Anybody South Yorkshire - Sheffield way that wants to give this a try - you are more than wlecome to come along!
Dave.
Klaxonman,
Watched a prog on C4 a few weeks ago and this family had moved to France and bought a lake, he had it drained because the old fishermen of the village talked of a big fish eating all the stock!!!!!!!!!!
Low and behold, he had it drained as he had purchased £40k of fish to fill it with and found a HUGE cat fish ;)
I had a tropical tank once with a cat fish and after all the smaller fish had died this cast fish of ours just grew and grew and grew, it died after 5 years but it virtually filled the tank!!!! It must be true that fish grow to the space around them!!
Not a big fishing fan myself, would rather leave the pike there to eat whats around them because its nature........but it surprises me just how big some of them are.
Maria ;)

Pretty good pike but still a bit short of the British record, which, I think, is 46 pound 13 ounces. Taken from Llandegfedd resevoir in South Wales. They grow so big there because it is a trout fishery regularly stocked with small rainbow trout which the pike feast on. It trout fishing only for most of the year but the pike anglers are allowed in for two weeks each Autumn. known as loony fortnight.
The previous record was also caught there by rugby legend Gareth Edwards.
