COURT TOLD NEIGHBOURS HAD FIST FIGHT IN STREET (http://www.nwemail.co.uk/news/court-told-neighbours-had-fist-fight-in-street-1.686421?referrerPath=news/)

NEIGHBOURING Barrow flat tenants who often met for a cup of tea ended up fighting in the street, a court heard.

William Axl Rose had entered Andrew Stewart’s flat in their School Street block of flats at around 7.45pm on February 26, Furness Magistrates’ Court was told.

By the end of the incident, Rose, 34, had assaulted Mr Stewart outside the building.

The court heard the pair had a good relationship and regularly dropped-in on each other to chat.

Miss Katie Marsden, prosecuting, told Thursday’s hearing that on that occasion, the victim, Mr Stewart, awoke in his flat to see Rose stood in his bedroom doorway.

Miss Marsden said: “(Rose) said ‘I’ve just come to have a look at you’. The complainant pushed him out of the door and shut the door.

“The defendant started banging on the door and threatened him, saying ‘okay, we can take it out on the street then’.”

Miss Marsden said an argument ensued, first in the downstairs communal area, and then in the street after Mr Stewart had tried to convince Rose to leave.

Miss Marsden said Rose punched Mr Stewart, who was forced to defend his head with his arms.

Police were called and Rose was arrested.

The court heard Rose was under the influence of alcohol and medication on the day, and that his recollection was hazy.
