Honestly, if I see another washing powder advertisement where they portray a man can't use a washing machine, I think I'll go pop! :blow: It's ridiculous.

Is it me, or in 2004 we have even more sexist adverts for some products? And I'm thinking both ways, sexist both to men and women in lots of cases.

It's all:

'Mum's gone to Iceland' - What happened to dad?!

'He' watches the football, while 'she' cooks the dinner. What about the other way around?!

Have you noticed that only women seem to eat chocolate?

There are just about as many 'house husbands' as there are 'housewives.'

When will the advertising industry latch on to this role reversal?

Nope - instead they concentrate on offering firstly the credit then the debt recovery adverts...

I had Sky removed because of this type of constant and infuriating advertising.

How about the' Bounty' kitchen towel advert with the two 'big blokes' dressed in very bad drag?

is it amusing or not, sometimes i do not know!!!

Annabel - no that is not I - I don't like floral dresses! LOL!

The people that think these adverts up treat us like we are stupid half of the time. They talk down to us, they stick small print on screen that you cannot read or the adverts are so 'sublime' half the time if leaves you wondering what they are trying to sell anyway!

Oh crikey, yes - certain SKY channels are so full of these type of Ads. Don't get me started on the 'No Win, No Fee' ads though.

There's so many 'demi-celebrities' in these too..........like Carol Smilie Smilie Smilie. :D :D :D :D :D :D

It has occurred to me, isnt it easier to identify non sexist adverts???

BTW i agree 100% with the Satellite adverts, thats why i always switch over to QVC when they come on!!! :D

The manufacturers of these products have focus audiences so it's not surprising that some may be construed as sexist. I usually turn over when the ads come on anyway. I've even managed to avoid the anti smoking ad 8-X

Ooh BC, that was over Xmas - every single break - DFS and it was only going to be a Boxing Day Sale, so you think, phew it'll be over soon...but, then they come out with New Year's Day only deals..Ok I can handle that, but no!! Offers extended to 2005...and the misery continues :o :banghead:

It's always females with cats on furniture??? What's that about? I don't have time to lounge about on my sofa  And if I had a cat it wouldn't be allowed on my brand new sofa!

"because you're worth it"

I think the worst sexist ads are the hair dye ones.

The nice 'n' easy one where 'she's going to stop traffic' AS IF :sicky:

Men use it too...I know

mazza
17-01-04, 12:32 PM
What I want to know is why is it that Men's hair dye is only five mins to work and women are left for hours, held hostage by plastic bags on their heads, stuff all dripping down??

It's just a way of keeping women trapped in the house :frown:

Lol@Esk!! Those women always have huuuuge mouths too!!! :P

There were all these people whose body parts used to twist round quite unnaturally.
Ohhhh yes, was that the Jeans ad? Weird.

Annabel
21-01-04, 11:28 AM
Yes the twisted people was for Levi's jeans, very weird.

I am not sure about the latest Fosters adverts, the one where the bungee jumper gets his head bitten off by a crocodile was bad enough, now theres another one where a pelican snaps off a blokes head!!! it is funny but also a bit 8-X

on the subject of hair care,. the one with some dippy female in the jungle washing her hair with fruity shampoo yelling yes! yes! really annoys me  so pathetic!

:oI had to find this thread as I have a bee in my bonnet over the new lynx advert!

the one where he is in the cafe with all the woman....he opens his book and her buttons come undone?.....yes that one......and have you seen the late night version of it!! :o scanderlous!!!!!!!!

he tweaks the radio dails and it looks like she has been out on a cold day, a very cold day if you know what I mean!!

then they say that today society is twisted and thrives on sex and you hear about attacks in night clubs etc!! hello!! stop encouraging people then!
what if a very drunk person actually tried to tune a radio in that way, I mean on a part of a ladies body!!!!

and another sexist ad which gets my goat is for a blokes mag, ladies you have to do it yourself on a thursday!
tossh!!!

There is a theory I've heard about advertising. When they show a good looking, well off person using a product, they are trying to make you identify want that item and therefore attain that lifestyle.
When they show stupid, ugly, clumsy, fat/bald, geeky people they are saying, this is an ordinary person, this is you isn't it? Why not buy this product we've designed for your needs.
It does seem to fit, you never see glamorous people using toilet cleaner or ugly weirdos driving BMWs in ads.

I hate all the anti-wrinkle ads. "This cream will reduce the appearance of fine lines"... see... camera zooms in on some sixteen year old! Yeah, no lines... shocker!

Yes, show us a 70 year old woman who's been using this cream, if she looks 30 then I would be impressed. Ageing is mostly genetic.

I dont believe those hair adverts either, where thewomen have amazingly straight and shiny hair. there is no way that shampoo&conditioner alone achieves that effect.

i think its a bit misleading actually. booo!!
