A step in the right direct I suppose...but will it work in practice? :unsure:

If people think that their NFH are in private rented accommodation, it might be worth contacting their LA to see if such a scheme is operating in their area. :) ;)

I have to say 'hallelujah' to this proposed law. as i have often mentioned, it is such a bugbear of mine that landlords let out properties without any thought of who they are letting to and whether their prospective tenant will suit the neighbourhood they will be living in.

many a time on this forum, we hear of people (even today there another poor person has joined this forum because of being driven demented by upstairs neighbours) who become 'buy to let' landlords because they think they will rake in loads of dosh but they actually end up causing a whole load of distress and upset to their neighbours. ultimately, i believe these landlords all end up losing money, all because they didnt do their research properly.

i believe licensing in certain areas is a very good idea as a lot of buy to let landlords seek out areas where there is a high chance of them getting in tenants who need DSS support - this means guaranteed rent for them with( so they believe) little hassle. some of these landlords are unscrupulous and do need controlling. if they wont act to control their tenants then a higher authority should be able to step in for the good of the community as a whole.

anyway, i mustnt rant on!!!

Good idea in principle, but in reality...

I think it was very cheeky of the spokesperson to say that landlods would be expected to exict quickly...have they any clue at all about Court procedures and all the daft things you have to do to even get the most obvious case out I wonder?

Councils have a very hard time getting eviction orders granted - it's a right old rigmarole and I don't see it being any different for a private landlord.

The whole system needs to be looked at and overhauled, not just the private sector

I would welcome moves to make private landlords act responsibly when dealing with problem tenants. The suffering neighbours of nfh in the private rented sector should be able to expect those landlords to take action under the terms of the tenancy agreement should it be necessary. To ensure landlords understand their responsibilities is no bad thing either.

Will watch with interest.
