sometimes ppl like the emotion in a film for whatever reason, maybe its nice to vicariusly [ VI-care-ee-us-Lee?] let things out.

Anyones thoughts on the subject! ?

And also favorite sad type films you thought were good,or even the most powerful film you've seen?

i've seen a few hum-dingers, not that many though...
i'll start with schindlers list....

Alot of ppl criticise this film, for various reasons...and they have points in there own ways...but i think it was good....i thought one it was a very stylish film which was very well made with very good music....and two i thoguht it was good because it brought the nazi thing to the attention to the MTV generation [ :P ...me!] in a way lessons in school didn't, and i think it made ppl alot more aware of the things that happened, and maybe got ppl thinking generally too about stuff that is important to them.

Ben kingsley and liam neeson very good too!

Hi Vern

I love films that affect you so much that they bring you to tears. Without trying to sound too corny, it's great to be so touched and caught up in the moment of a film.

My all time fave that is always guaranteed to turn me into a blubbering wreck any time of day is Dark Victory with Bette Davies (who is wonderful in it) and Humphrey Bogart.

If you haven't seen it, it's highly recommended and unless you're made of stone, don't forget your tissues!!

PS. Mr Skeffington also always has the same effect on me (must be something about Bette Davies!)

Oh, vern, you've caught me at a weak point with this one...

I was blubbing last night  , in a sort of nice way...

I went to see Return of the King.

My favourite weepy films (that I can recall off the top of my head) are: Goodbye Mr Chips; Beaches; Stepmom; Watership Down, er and that's it for the moment.

I think it's just easy to cry at certain films, and if you're feeling at a bit of a low ebb anyway the slightest thing can get you.

Nice topic... and I'm always up for a good weepy, so all recommendations gratefully received! ;)

Oh HollyGL.

Goodbye Mr. Chips........but the old crackly 1937 version of course (not that I was around when it was made, thank you ;) ) children, of course I had children, hundreds of them and they boys, all boys

Next, "What a Wonderful Life" another great old Black and White.

But the one that gives me the (sort of cant catch my breath) cause I'm sobbing way toooooooooooooooo much is Whoopie Goldberg in 'The Color Purple'

Another one that made me sob and sob was 'Ring of bright Water'

Yes Janee, have read and seen Schindlers list. Not a weepy but a real jolt of the real world and brings everything home to you.

Thank you for this thread Vernon

Maria :)

Oh my godness, I am so pathetic, a big wimp, I cry at everything - especially those trashy american-made-for tv-about-real-life-people movies about kids with ilnesses, parents who are dying. Also Lassie, the Littlest Hobo etc etc.

  B)

:D  Yes, It's a Wonderful Life  .

The Pianist is a great fil but I didn't cry at that one.

Erm, another, The Killing Fields... again.... Salvador.

A film of utter despair (I didn't cry though) was Cathy Come Home.

BTW, Mr Chips has to be the orignal version. ;)

More, more! :( :D

I've not heard of the film janee is talking about..but sounds like strong stuff.

Beauty and the Beast & bambi also strong stuff just in diff ways :)

"BuuuRRRr D" "BuuuRRRr D"

Other weeper films i thought were good too are :
Baz lurhmann films !!! "romeo & juliet" and "moulin rouge" ...stylish!

Good will hunting was a bit of a guy weeper.. like the shawshank redemption too

Forrest gump even has a few twangers !
...

Defenutly jean de florette & manon des sources [ i only watched them coz i heard they were good films ] ....definutly they were very good, full of a alot of things and has powerful endings, very good filmography stuff too french hills and stuff.

One flew over the cuckoos nest! ... that was a big ending!

In the bedroom, had very strong emotional story as well...although for different reasons coz it was so underplayed and about the little things ppl do in situations..which somehow made the film seem more real.

I thought the third man was a good film...though not a weepey

I think i cried first time seeing E.T. but that was because its the scariest film i ever watched....the plastic tunnel things at the ppls house.....AHHHHHHHH
watched it through the bottom of a popcorn box [ i think i was 4 at the time or younger]

and who couldn't feel bad when "wilson" dissappeared!

i saw a "does not make you feel good at all" film called "happiness" ..never watch that one again, and "kill bill" has very harsh bits init.

I think "LEON" is very emotional film too...is about strong things...and the directors cuts adds alot of missing bits to the story, its very stylish too...but packs a whallop especially at the ending!!!1q

think i've seen the names of a few films to add to the "to watch list :P"
i've got about ten films not seen yet too. :P
