A "neighbour from hell" better known as The Shuffler has been jailed for a year for threatening his estranged uncle with a knife.
Paul Blakelock, who gained the nickname The Shuffler for his distinctive gait, pulled out a knife and asked his victim "Do you want some of this?" as the pair grappled in the street.
While the 26-year-old's uncle was left with a grazed arm in the incident, Blakelock was found at his home in Burnip Road, Murton, with a wound to his arm where he had cut himself.
Durham Crown Court was told by prosecutor Stephanie Donnington that Blakelock was in breach of a four-year Antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) when he was found near Seaham Leisure Centre in Deneside unsteady on his feet and slurring his words.
She added that he was in breach of a suspended sentence, imposed earlier this year, for another breach of the order.
Blakelock admitted charges of possessing a bladed article and assaulting his uncle and breaching his Asbo when he appeared at the court this week.
Mark Styles, defending, said Blakelock had taken a steak knife from a kitchen when he became upset about a minor family argument and intended to harm himself.
Mr Styles added his client "struggles with day-to-day issues" and explained he took valium and was a heavy-drinker.
He added: "He doesn't set out with a deliberate intent to cause difficulties with others."
Victims says The Shuffler got off lightly. (http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/Victim-The-Shuffler-got-off.4039627.jp)
Judge Peter Armstrong told Blakelock he would serve six months in jail and the remaider of his sentence on licence.
The judge said Blakelock was building up a substantial criminal record, adding: "You have underlying problems with taking the drugs methadone and valium and so forth.
"That doesn't do you any good and causes you to get into further trouble."
