View Full Version : The Swine Flu Jab can I ask....
I have received a letter today from my surgery to say that I fall into the category where I am eligible for the Swine Flu Jab
I am asthmatic (sometimes) and I always have the flu jab. Which I had last friday and I always react to it by ending up with a big red lump around the puncture mark and it is itching, bruised and very sore :(
What I would like to ask is has anyone else had the Swine Flu injection? I know there are pro's and con's but the form I have been sent says exactly the same as the ordinary flu jab only the heading has been changed :)
Are you for or against having it? I am in a dilemma and do not know whether to have it or not yet.
Hi Omega,
Im having my swine flu jab on saturday to be honest i would rather have that than catch swine flu. I f you havent had it done by then i will let you know if i have any side effects or find out anymore info ;)

I am not having it done at present as I feel it has been rushed through. This years seasonal flu jab contains H1N1 by the way. Swine flu is H1N1.
I have looked recently for the pro and cons and found that the sites with reputable cons have disappeared and all that's left appear to be what I would call propaganda pros
It is also begining to look like Swine flu is a man made virus as it is not mutating as a normal virus would, suggested it was manufactured.

That's funny cos that is what Mr O's always said; this jab is another way of them making money of the back of us
I was told that a member of my family had been working on the swine flu vaccine for quite a number of years before this supposedly epidemic
I have had the swine flu jab at work today, it didn't hurt. We were told that the possible reactions are, a dead arm for 3/4 days and itching or swelling around the area of the needle prick. I've read about the pro's and con's of it but decided as the client group i work with are high-risk, it would be as well to have the jab whilst it was on offer. I had it this morning and have had no reaction as of yet. Will let you know if anything develops!
I hope I'll be sent a letter as I am also asthmatic and I have made sure to have flu jabs the past 2 years after a horrid bout of flu the year before left me coughing for weeks. I don't forsee any problem with it. I have had mild swelling, aching and itching for a couple of days with the normal jab. Flu and its complications scare me far more.
Hi Omega
Had it done this morning
Apart from my arm feeling bruised which usually happens with the ordinary flu vaccination anyway, there are no other nasty side effects.
I havent turned pink grown a snout or curly tail yet so thats all good.
I suppose really you have to ask yourself if you could cope with flu and decide from that,I had flu a few years ago and i really dont want to feel that ill ever again so that swayed me ;)
Hi er and thanks for that :) Don't fancy truffles yet then huh
I think I may have had a bad reaction to the ordinary flu jab that I had a week ago last Friday. My arm eventully stopped hurting (I had a huge red lump on my arm!); itching and being generally sore around Thursday. Up until Friday I felt really rough, have had cold symptoms, feeling hot then cold and clammy, upset tummy and feeling so tired that again I am sleeping nearly 11 hours a night  So not sure if it is still the jab or whether a virus of sorts; or it's the Firbomyagia playing up :(
My Swine Flu Jab is next Thursday so think I may have it - keep us posted though ;)
I had both the ordinary flu jab and the swine Flu jab at the same time in the same arm
My arm is/was so painful I could hardly move it, Friday I spent the whole day in bed feeling really quite ill. Don't know which one I had a reaction with wehther it was one or the two combined that caused it, all I know is I felt awful. :ill:

:o Goodness you were brave ;)

Had no choice, you know what my firm is like for taking time out for "stuff".
One year I was told that I was not allowed time off to have my flu jab, so thought I am at the clinic lets get it all over and done with in one go.
dont forget to ask whats in the flu jabs if you are allegic to anything!
I believe that it contains egg protien, so if you are allegic to eggs you cant have the normal flu jab, I dont know about the swine flu one so you do need to check first
They normally ask you, as normally you have to fill in a form. :)

I've just had my flu jab. I didn't have to fill in a form, but before she would give the jab the nurse asked if I was allergic to various things (can't remember what they were though). I then had to sit and wait in the reception area for 10 minutes in case I had any immediate reaction. There may be different procedures in different clinics, but they will all be aimed at covering the same potential problems.
Well i had mine on Tuesday (swine flu) and my arm has only just started to feel normal again! On Wed and Thur i was pretty ill but i think that was the winter vomiting virus and just coincidence i'd had the swine flu jab the day before as nobody else at my work had problems with sickness and upset stomach.

Had my swine flu jab yesterday :(and still feel pretty rough. I have to have another dose in 3 weeks time. :( My arm is like a balloon and very red and I have the mother of all headaches. The other half who incidentally had to have the swine flu jab because he lives with me and could put me at risk:rolleyes: had just the one dose and is fine apart from a sore arm. I have the ordinary flu jab every year and always get a sore arm for the day but this is something else.:( I know I needed it but am not looking forward to the next shot :(
Has anyone else had a bad reaction with the 2 shot jab?
To be honest Planet I had worse side effects from the ordinary flu jab than the swine flu one, with that one i just had a stiff arm for a few days.
The ordinary one gave me horrible headche for a few days and a general feeling of yuk.
It must depend on each person but I hope the next one will be easier for you.:doctor:
Poor you Planet sounds awful. I haven't felt very good since I had the original flu jab - not sure if it's to do with that or not but I keep feeling flu like then it goes; hubby is the same :(
I have decided not to have the swine flu jab, after much deliberation! My niece who is a really bad asthmatic has ended up in the emergency department on 2 consecutive boxing days! She has looked into it and decided not to have it either so I have taken a lead from her as she is a trained pharmacist ;)
Also I have read that there is a 2nd strain of swine flu going around so the swine flu jab now may not be strong enough and will not protect you from the 2nd strain :( So it's all a mess to me!
Good luck for the 2nd jab :flowers:

I was ok with the original one Omega, but not good with this one  and not looking forward to having to have a second dose. Has anyone else had the 2 jab one? Apparently its for people who have AIDS/HIV/cancer or are immuno compromised as I am as well as being asthmatic. :(
I only had it because my grandfather died of asthma as that does worry me but now Im not so sure if it was for the best
To be honest if they offer me a second jab, I think I am going to refuse, like Planet it made me feel quite ill and my arm was driving me nuts, with the itching and the buning, although my mate who is a nurse did say put ice on it. So if they offer me a second one its a no no.
Had Swine flu jab about a week ago, had very sore arm and splitting headache for about 3 days after
