I have just emailed off an email Financial Ombudsman Service, my advice DO NOT USE ABBEY INSUANCE they are a waste of space.:mad::mad:

Our house was hit by ligntening back in June and it sort mucked up the HD bit of our TV. Anyway I have home contents insuance with Abbey so contacted them, they put our claim with a claims handling company called Ival. Ival then proceeded to send us 2 letters exactly the same confirming our claim, these letters were both received on the same day, I did think umm this does not bode well how right I was.

They sent an engineer in July and then nothing, zilch, so I called them in August only be offered a new TV, which I queried like an idiot, as the engineer said it was the "mother board" that had blown on our telly, I was then put on hold for 15 mins and in the end hung up so immeidately I call Abbey who informed me that our claim had been rejected, so why do not Ival or Abbey write and tell me, no I think that would have been too easy. I told Abbey that Ival had offered us as new telly, they said they had already queried the outcome as our telly was only 18 months old and Ival said it was due to ware and tear, :eek:but as I said to Abbey we had only had HD plugged in for 6 months. So Abbey agreed to send another engineer to have a look at it, which they did on 18th August, so then we wait and wait and nothing again.

So on 24th September I call Abby again, and guess what I was put on hold for 12 mins in the end I hung up and then called the Complaints Department, who then said they would call me back that night at 8pm.

Well guess what, no call, no nothing to date, so I now have a complaint against the Complaints Dept:rolleyes: (which I do find for some reason find midly amusing:lol:) so have today reported them to the Ombudsman. The only correspondence I have in writing is two letters as mentioned above.

You know these companies are so quick to take our money, but as to customer services, its rubbish, don't worry though we just send them some money and that will "shut them up" not this time maty. :p

Yes I have had problems with them in the past over our life assurance and then sent me a cheque for £50 which went straight in the bin. I want customer service not money!:mad::mad:

So my advice do not put your home contents insurance with Abbey.

Hi,

Good luck with your claim. I am sure you will win as Abbey seem to be in the news a lot with this so many claims for mistakes. I am an avid mail reader and the finacial section on Sunday has one for Abbey virtually every week.

I havent but if you google Abbey bank complaints I am sure you will see a chart to show exactly where they lie.

Regards
Mac

Sounds typical Abbey, google Abbey Fraud and see how many hits on their lack of fraud investigations they do and how long it take to sort out. They froze a friend of mines current account for nearly three months in the, with no money being released to him at all. It would have been even longer or never released if he had no pushed and shoved a lot.

Thought I would update you on this long running sage, well two letters later from the Financial Ombusman, and they have offered us last week a brand new telly and some money in compensation.

Got there in the end, mind you renewal of insurance is due at the end of May and when the renewal notice arrives feel like getting a red pen and writing across "you are having a laugh" and sending it back to them, in fact I think I will do that
