Did anyone see Bill Bailey on Room 101 a few evenings ago?
It was so funny. One of his pet hates was Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh.

If you could send a song into Room 101 (to be lost forever) which would it be?

I'll start it off with Nights in White Satin, don't know why but that is very cringe-making for me

aha! how about any Xmas song by Cliff Richard...they are all cringemaking, and especially if you watch videos of his prancing about like a ninny along to them...

i also realise how i do cringe when i hear 'golden brown' by the stranglers, which is actually quite a good song, but i remember getting my face chewed off by some spotty oik when i was about 15 when dancing with him to this song...after that he was under the misguided impression he had become my boyfirend...HA fat chance!!!!! oooohhh CRRRIIIINNNGGGEEEE

must run away and be sick!!!!! 8-X :sicky: :ill:

if i think of any more i will let you know!!!!!!

 I think Golden Brown should definitely go in, Annabel - you've made such a good case for it! :D (hope you're feeling better now 8-X)

Not sure about Cliff though, yes, he does 'prance around like a ninny' but who would give us such a good laugh if hhe wasn't here? Did you see that clip where he was singing, not sure which song it was, but the dry ice machine went into overdrive and Cliff disappeared! Brilliant stuff :hihi:

Agadoo Holly? - It's gotta go for being so flippin' irritating! Pulling the lever now............ :hihi: The power!!

I saw that room 101 too - it was very CRINGE indeed, esp when Chris de Burgh's Stars in their Eyes copycat did that...that ''duet' with him :ill:

Now I have had a little think about this and have come to the conclusion that ANYTHING by warbly Craig David, overdoing his vocals for all he's worth and Enrique Iglesias will do it for me 8-X.

I really thought that blinking song that was at no 1 for ages was cringe too - Everything I do, I do it for you' by whateverhisname is...arrrgh

You can tell I'm not the 'romantic' type  B)

Hmm, one that makes me cringe and laugh my head off is that one that goes "I wish I could fly.....but I can't" was it Keith Harris and Orville?

This song never really bothered me before....but yesterday we took Blue Cow Jnr to see Peter Pan in Panto and for reasons known only to the production team, they chose to do the worst rendidtion of R Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" that I have ever heard.

I have never before realised how cringeworthy a song can really be 8-X and today I just can't get it out of my head :banghead:

"See me running through that open door" - I wish I had!!!!

That list is so long and distinguished that I feel it would be wrong
to single out any particular one. It would imply that; that one makes
me cringe more than any other !!.

I like to treat them all with equal contempt !! :P

It was a great programme, wasn't it! Very entertaining and had me yelling at the tv   .

I don't think Cheeky Girls are truly the worst though...that was a bit of an anticlimax I thought...

I had never even heard the Millenium Prayer by Cliff - talk about lucky, but I think it richly deserves it's very high position at no 2 - utterly contemptible!!!! 8-X

Maximum cringe factor!!!!

All this Britney hype has reminded me of her cringeworthy voice and dancing 8-X

Ooh, The mention of Danny Boy just made me remember Hi Ho Silver Lining - CRRRRRINGGGEEE. It reminds me of big slobbery drunken sweaty-pitted blokes in pubs at closing time trying to dance with you... Yuk Yuk YUk

Blue Cow

I wasn't going to mention this one - but now Danny Boy has been nominated - then the gloves are off...

Some people might say this is cringemungous, but I love it! Don't know the proper title, but the chorus is "Yes, sir I can boogie" - FAB :P

Great Topic !

It's so often perceived that music is always good. It seems though we are bombarded more and more by music without having any consent whether we want it or not.

The most cringing songs are anything that would be played in public...stores and restaurants, doctor offices, airports etc. . It's unfortunate that the music that makes me cringe is popular music that is heard everywhere over and over. It wouldn't be so bad if the music was really in the background but it is far more common now for the music to be in the foreground where I notice every note in bad acoustic settings. The songs also stick in my head way too easily. I also have a more difficult time hearing friends when at a restaurant when the music is louder, which naturally makes everyone else raise their voices to be heard. It's at times totally maddening why it has become like this.

Glad you said something when the music was becoming irritating Sweetpea. It's not easy to say something about things like that, and since very few will actually complain to a manager, it just gets worse.

I have never understood how anyone can think one music fits all the masses. Often the stores must just hope the music is accepted. For anyone that doesn't like screeching diva pop music or oldies, it becomes a long road of constant cringe irritation. I just feel music is a very personal choice and should not be just indiscrimanently used and forced on everyone. It really feels like I've been cursed by this cultural phenomenon !

I realize there are worse noise problems, but piped music is so ubiquitous that you can rarely avoid it if you even wanted to. What is worse is it's become louder and is even more often heard in what is the public commons.

I have found myself cringeing madly over Lemarr's song which seems to be constantly on my local radio station.

The lyrics are simply sick making and the bit that says 'the ooh, the aaah, the oooh'....GIVE ME STRENGTH!!!! :sicky:

He even throws in a bit of Craig David-style warbling for good measure :ill:

 :D

agree there mazza, how come a totally talentless object like him got a recording contract i will never know...theres one line in his previous song 'i wanna be the one who really gets to know you' which truly induces bile in me, its so out of place, out of tune and cringemungously bad 8-X

but what about sophie ellis-bextor...is it just me or is she just taking everyone for a ride...her voice is chronic and her songs are utterly trite and very cringey to listen to..if you can afford to waste 3 minutes of your life on her... surely her record company realise she cannot sing for toffee??????

Annabel - with you all the way on Sophie E-B.

I just can't fathom out who on earth would be buying her records

mazza

I think she's admitted taking the proverbial out of the industry, although I did see an interview with her once and she claimed that she was going to bring 'glamour' to pop!! :hihi:

It's a shame cos I really really liked Groovejet when she guested with Spiller...

As for Lemarr - eeek, even that 'Lullaby' one is chronic.

Ohh Ahhh aooooooohh...
Grrrrr

Now I've just remembered Mariah Carey - I'm even more gip-ridden!

Sophie E-B - am going a bit off topic here, but does anyone else remember her Mum being pregnant with her on Blue Peter (Janet Ellis was it?)
Guess you would have to be a bit of an oldie like me to remember that :D

Yes, it was, bet there was a lot of discussion by the producers along the lines of 'ooops how do we handle this one' :)
