Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone can help.

I interviewed for a post with my local authority back in June and was offered a maternity cover post for one year starting October. They then asked if i could start September instead which was fine. I was told once the CRB had come through i'd receive a contract in due course. Well as i still hadn't received anything (and CRB came through about 6 weeks ago) i rang HR this morning.

They say they have never had a 'starter form' so cannot therefor issue a contract or put me on payroll etc etc. To say i was upset was an understatement :(. As its a school, i cannot do anything until 7th (next Mon) but it looks like i'll miss Septembers pay (as its the 15th of each onth - 2 weeks ahead and 2 behind) so i wont be paid until 15th Oct!!

So i'll be starting work on Monday after being made redundant in April with no contract and probably no pay for 6 weeks, which is a huge problem. Obviously i'll be trying to sort this out on Monday but has anyone ever been in this situation or have any advise on what my rights are, can i get paid on the 15th Sept as it's clearly not my fault?

I'm finding it all quite stressful so any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Olivia,

I found this site very usefull when I was having problems at work- http://www.i-resign.com/uk/home

There is a forum area where there are some people with a lot of employment law experience.

With it being the school holidays the staff will have had time off, with a few at a time left covering, so I can imagine that its easy to lose track of paper work, or if its been delegated to some one else, they've 'not got round to it'.

Its awfull to be worried about not getting your first months pay after being out of work for these months, I used to work in a school and they were really good about making sure problems got sorted out, and would always go out of their way for you so try not to worry too much and don't let it spoil your first week,

Take care, Caro x

Thanks Caro

Will have a detailed look at that site later, looks very informative.

It's just such a pain as i need payroll details, proof of earnings etc for working tax credit forms etc etc.....

Yes they were all really nice at the school and i'm guessing that it's been over looked, was just hoping things would run smoothly as i'm super-nervous.
