It is a Region 1 DVD (America) - does anyone know if it will play on my computer?
(Its a Dell)

i havent bought a dvd player yet, but when i do i will make sure its an all regions one.

hello!

i've not seen/heard of this film yet, but jack lemmon was great in "short cuts" & "glengarry glen ross".

usually dvd player in puters are region coded too, its chanable five times i think then "locked" in the region of last dvd played, so if you've watched films a bit on your puter chances are its locked to region 2.
i have never tried "unlocking" one so i don't know if its easy or possible ;).

*i just had a little search and yes plenty of utilites and things to "region-free-atise" a puter dvd player... but they all have little risks i think ... i'll have a look about for easy ways to do it.

(i haven't come across this prollem as i have a multi region stand alone dvd bought before my comp, i think there are alot of "multi region"/ "region free" dvd players out at the mo...and comparatively not as pricey as they used to be)

i only have one region one dvd ("anywhere but here" :D)
i do have the directors cut of Leon in R2 jap dvd !

( i may have said that before too :P)

There is a program out there for Pc's called 'Dvd Region Free' which allows
your Pc to play any region discs !!.

This is a trial version http://www.click-now.net/cgi-bin/download.pl?file=0066

If you are about to buy a Dvd player, have a look at the spec on the internet.
You can usually find the 'Region' un-lock codes for most makes !!.

I've just bought a cheap one off Amazon.com for my youngest daughter, £29.95
and there was a link to the 'un-lock' code !!

You could try here http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/index.php it may be of help !!

Just wanted to say thanks , all very helpful. and also to vanner, I am gonna investigate how to 'allregionise' my PC. i got my Dvd today, and my Pc said i could change the region in order to watch it, but if i did then that would be it, my pc would be locked into that one region, so i wont bother...but my fingers were itching to click 'yes' and get on and watch my film!!!!

all the more reason to get a dvd player, quick!!!

Just reviving this for a sec !!

If you know someone who is doing 'Dodgy' copies, you could ask them to back-up your film for you.
They probably use a program called 'AnyDvd' which amongst other things, lets you change the region.

Plus it lets you convert from the American NTSC system to our PAL, so you will be able to
play it on a normal Dvd player and TV.

Got a Dvd writer for 'Chrissie' so learning all about this stuff !!

Just a passing thought !! :)
