I'm all of dither :) We've been panicking all weekend because Molly, our cat has been showing all the signs of giving birth. We've allbeen dancing attendance on her and she has been lapping it up. No wonder they're called Queens :P

Anyway, tonight she slipped off and found a quiet place under daughter's bed and so far we have three kittens :D If there was any doubt about the paternity, well there isn't any more. They are all the spitting image of 'Romeo', a local tom who was forever serenading Molly under the window. I'd sue for for child support but I think all I'd get is half a cold mouse :P

Off now to see if there's any more ;)

Ahhhhh....kittens. Lovely. We've always had cats but never any kittens (the cats have always been 'done' before we adopted them)

What colour are they Misty?

Congratulations to Molly and Romeo (lived up to his name there! :D)

Thank you all for your lovely comments :) I'll pass them on to the proud mum :)

I think the final count is three :) They are black and white, just like their dad. (Molly is all black). I don't know what dad's name is, (or even if he has one, he might be a stray) we just call him Romeo because he used to sit on the shed yowling at Molly who would be sitting on the bedroom window ledge gazing down at him, a sort of feline Romeo and Juliet act

I'd forgotten just how tiny newborn kittens are! I can hold the three of them in one hand. Sorry if I sound like an excited kid but I feel quite elated about our new family :)

Our other cat Brian (the eunuch ;) ) is taking it all very calmly. In fact he's ignoring it all......for now. Give it four or five weeks and he'll be looking for hiding places

I'll post a pic when they are a bit older and look more like kittens and less like baby rats ;)

I'm keeping one, Annabel, the other two will be moving in with my daughter :)

Sad postscript :(

I had a feeling Molly might have another kitten inside her as he side was still slightly 'bumpy'. I'd heard that sometimes cats can give birth one day and have another 24 hours later. This morning we found another kitten beside her but sadly it was dead :(

My daughter is taking her (Molly) to the vet tonight and have her checked over, just in case there might be a problem.

The other kits seem to be doing fine :)

Hi Misty,

Sorry to hear your news. It's really sad.

I hope that she's okay when the vet checks her out and that the other three kittens are doing okay.

That's really sad news, Misty :( . I hope that there are no more that don't live, and that Molly is given the all-clear after the check-up...her other kittens need her a lot right now ;) . Hugs from me Lily and me!

More sad news, another little 'un died :( Daughter couldn't get home in time to take them to the vet and is hoping to be able to do it tomorrow.

I'm wondering if it's a genetic thing. Molly's mother has had three litters that we know of (she's a stray) and as far as we know only Molly and a kitten from the litter after her, which my sister took in, have survived :( My sister tried to capture the mother so she could get her to the PDSA for spaying but she's far too cunning to be caught :( Molly was quite sick when we caught her and her surviving sister, unfortunately the vet had to put her sister to sleep and didn't hold out much hope for Molly but my daughter nursed her back to health.

So those returned vibes will be much welcomed Sapph. :)

Hi Misty

Belated congrats from me :D

Sounds like it's been quite a rollercoaster :( but at least you have the survivors who will certainly keep you all busy  .

Aaah, it's great that wherever they live, you'll be able to see them grow up :) .

Hope Molly's ok now and that you aren't getting too many sleepless nights  .

Thanks folks :)

Fingers crossed, the two remaining kittens seem quite strong and Molly is being very attentive. :) Time will tell but I'm thinking positively :)

Aww, Misty! :( The laws of selection always seem a cruel thing to me :( . I so hope that the two survivors are just that, and that Molly can give them the sustenance they need to make it :)

Lily, and her sisters and I are all sending the biggest healing and positive vibes we can muster (and, of course, mega cyber-hugs) ;)

Rushed another little 'un to the vet last night. He thought it would survive and daughter got a tiny kitten bottle and some special milk powder. Was looking at getting up every 2 hours but the little mite didn't even get it's first bottle feed. It died in my hand :(

The last kitten has been the most active since it was born and is a voracious feeder. My daughter has just this minute gone out the door to take Molly and Fred (temporary name) to the vet to get them both checked over.

It was so sad, Molly got very agitated after the little one died and was desperate to take her/him back to her 'nest'. So sad :(

Thanks for all your words of comfort. Some people might think I'm being silly but I am really upset about the little mites. I keep thinking that they'll never dance in the sun, or chase a butterfly and I'll finish now cos I'm getting all sentimental and weepy

Oh Misty, how very sad! I can very well understand your thoughts about what they'll never get chance to do....I had a couple of very young kittens die extremely suddenly, nothing we could do; it's heart-breaking. I did have their surviving brother tho' for 14 years, after he was very ill and hand-reared. He was a real fighter!

All the vibes we have in the house to help you all help little Fred....everything crossed too. A big cuddle for Molly from me and Lil, and my others. Take care all of you ;)

Thank you all for your lovely comments :)

The vet says Fred is healthy and strong but we've got to keep an eye on Molly. She has all that milk and only one kit to feed :(

She seems to have adapted well and we're making a fuss of her. I just wish I could get her to move from under the bed :o It's one of those beds with the sliding doors so you can store stuff inside it. Doesn't do my old joints much good having to get down on all fours to keep a check on them :P Poor little Fred looks so tiny lying there all by himself when Molly goes off for a break.

Thanks for all those vibes Sapph :) Give Lily a huggle from me and mine :) and I'll give Fred and Molly all the huggles from everybody here :)

Oh Misty, so sad for you and Molly.

Poor kittens, but they had a loving home while they were here. Sometimes it's nature's way, but nature seems so cruel at times :(

Hope Fred grows into a big, bouncing Tom!

Love and cuddles to Molly and Fred, from me and Little Puss.

Thinking of you,

Great news, Misty, that Fred is doing well! Why, oh,why, do they always choose to hole- up under the bed?? :P. On top would be so much easier for us! . I'm sure that Molly will be OK....just keep an eye on her. You do reailse that Fred is going to be a cat with an enormous sense of his own importance now, don't you?? :P

Huggles and vibes all round, and Lily says a more cheery "hi" today!

Hi Misty :)

I've just caught up and am really sorry to hear about the other little kitten. It's really upsetting when you've had some time to bond with the babies and then this happens. My lovebirds had babies earlier this year, and we lost one at about 10 weeks. It was so upsetting as we'd thought that they were all doing so well :(

I'm glad to hear that Molly and Fred are doing okay, and hope that they continue to do well :)
