hi there anybody know if acer laptops are a good make.seen a nice one that i want to purchase. thanks
Hi
I've got an acer laptop and have been very pleased with it, its about 2 years old now but still going strong, no keys dropping off or that sort of thing.
I've even upgraded the memory myself and it was really easy.
Did have cause to get tech help once but that was because I managed to get a virus. The machine was out of warranty but the acer people gave help over the phone and even emailed me instructions so can't ask for more than that I think. Especially as I'd bought it from Tesco rather than a PC store.
Hope this is of some help to you:)

Not sure about the laptops, but I always get Acer monitors - good price/specs, well made, last well.

Generally Acers are considered "cheap and cheerful" but they are excellent value for money. They are not very robust, but if you don't plan on slinging the thing about or dropping it, it will be fine. I have an Acer netbook which I am very pleased with. You could do a lot worse.
The only brands I usually warn people to avoid like the plague are Advent and Medion. Both cheap and nasty and Advent laptops are prone to overheating.

The mention of the word Advent laptop + overheating sounds familiar, it was that life changing experience combined with Windows malware which helped me move to Linux.

Always care for the power input socket. That's where the cord plugs into the computer. The socket is connected to the motherboard and can fail if damaged. Treat it like a baby.

Cor, you said it. My last one was an Advent when I knew no better. I nearly flung the thing out of the window on many occasions. My new one is a Toshiba. No complaints there :D
