Police will not be looking to prosecute anyone in the case of a 13-year-old boy who has become a father.

Alfie Patten: The schoolboy is now father to 7lb 3oz Maisie Roxanne, born on Monday Photo: THE SUN

Alfie Patten's girlfriend Chantelle Steadman, 15, gave birth to Maisie Roxanne at the Eastbourne District General Hospital, East Sussex.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said the force had looked at the case and decided it was "not in anyone's interests" for a prosecution to take place.

In a statement, police said: "Sussex Police Child Protection Team were aware of a 14-year-old girl that had become pregnant as the result of a relationship with a 12-year-old boy.

"A joint agency investigation with East Sussex County Council Children's Services has taken place which has considered the needs of both individuals and there will be continued support for these two young people in the future."

Thirteen-year-old Alfie is the latest in a long line of young UK teenagers to become parents.

The news that 4ft Alfie conceived baby Maisie when he was only 12 renewed calls for better sex education for the nation's children.

England has long had the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in western Europe.
Jenny Teague, of Dorset, was for many years regarded as the UK's youngest mum giving birth in 1997, aged just 12 to Sasha.

Zoe Hodgson, of Birstall, West Yorkshire, was 12 when she conceived and 13 when she gave birth in 2005 to son Leo, whom she used as inspiration to continue her studies, passing 11 GCSEs.

Edinburgh girl Samantha Robertson conceived her daughter Leigha at 14.
After giving birth and finding life difficult she launched "Sassy Mums" - a website for other young mothers.

Natalie Scanlan, 16, of Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, made national news in 2005 by giving birth to triplets. She went on to feature in a television programme about the nation's youngest parents.

Isn't it just sickening. I mean, really sickening? Just the thought of it 8-X .

The boy hasn't got a clue what has hit him, it's just pathetic.

I know that biology means it's possible, but that is why we have the Age of Consent. These kids should be kids, not parents!

Yes, I am intolerant too  .

Its so frightening :( what the heck is going on???? :(

for goodness sake, lets end the sex education debate and start teaching the kids about how not to get pregnant and how not to catch VDs and STDs

the oh they are too young debate is obviouisly rubbish, if they can doing it at 12!

we know they are going to have sex, so lets tell them about it and how to do it safely
although my mum still says the best contraception is the word no! I think she might have something there ;)

I am a little confused he is 12 and she is 15 so who instigated this act I wonder? Could he have been led astray by this older girl? They soon shout if a boy of 15 seduced a girl of 12; wouldn't he be arrested for such an act? So why not the other way round?

I too am becoming very intolerant in my older years. I do not believe that sex should not be an issue with younger children, it should certainly not be taught in infant or early primary schools IMO.

My 9 year old granddaughter asked her dad the other day if he had sex with mummy to get her, daddy said yes darling, daughter said "was it good" :o he said it was a long time ago and he couldn't remember  (They are divorced!). She also wanted to know what "sexed up" meant. They do come out with odd things sometimes!

Just read that a neighbour is saying it may not even be his as the girl has boys to stay, especially one from over the road from her :o So do you think there could be a DNA test now to see if this youngster is actually the father :errrm:

Something is definitely not right with this story. Ok that didn't sound right cos even if it's true of course it's not right. What I mean is, the whole story is so iffy...he just doesn't look capapble of doing the deed  .

And why are these childrens' identities being paraded about the media like this? Surely he needs to be protected from all this.

These kids need to be taken into care and the parents prosecuted for neglect as well as the children who allegedly had underage sex otherwise what is the bloomin point of such a law? I know I sound like a Daily Mail reader or something, but really, the whole shameful story is sickening and turns my stomach.

According to an article I read the girls parents were fully aware that these children were sharing a bed when he stayed overnight. What did they think they were going to do - play Scrabble all night?:o:mad:

as a parent of a 14 year old underdeveloped boy i can say that i'd very surprised if that boy even had his first pube.

To me he looks like he is about 9 years old, my god what is going on? At 13 ok knew the merchanics, but anything else was just hearsay and very scarey rumours  saying that today you pick up and any paper, mag or some late night progamms as its sort of "in you face". What can people expect. If I had gone home and told my Mum & Dad that I was pregnant the "balloon would have gone up".

Bonkers Mad!!!

Quite agree BM, all along Mr O has said it has been for the money they have probably got from selling their story. Seems to be very contrived IMO  Will that declaration from the young trainee chef who claims he could be the father be prosecuted now if indeed he does turn out to be father, and will her mother be prosecuted for "aiding and abetting" and allowing this 16yr old boy to sleep with her then 14yr old daughter in the family home??

Alfie, who lives with his mother Nicola, 43, in Eastbourne, told The Sun - when he believed he was the father - he 'thought it would be good to have a baby'.
Unbelieveable he is still a baby himself

Baby-faced 'father' Alfie Patten who was thought to have become a parent at the age of just 13 is not the real dad of a three-month-old baby.
After months of controversy it can finally be revealed that Alfie, who would have been only 12-year-old when the baby was conceived, is not the biological father of baby Maisie.
The teenager believed he had made Chantelle Stedman, 15, pregnant, but DNA tests have shown the baby is not his.
The news can only be reported after East Sussex County Council failed in an attempt to ban reports of the case.
There had also been an order made in the High Court soon after the story hit the headlines that banned the reporting of any new information concerning Chantelle, Alfie and little Maisie.
In February Mrs Justice Baron had ruled that the rights of the teenagers took precedence over the rights of the press to freedom of expression.
Before the ban was imposed there had been suspicions that Alfie, who looks no older than eight, was not the father.

DNA tests were demanded after several teenage boys claimed they could be Maisie's dad.
However, before the tests were carried out Mrs Justice Baron ruled that the rights of the teenagers took precedence over the rights of the press to freedom of expression.
A further judgment made last month by Mrs Justice Eleanor King, said the girl had been called a '********' by four people she did not know.

The teenager said 'I was crying a lot every day' and feared that the insults would 'go on forever'.
Alfie was 'extremely distressed" when he was told he was not the baby's father in March, the judgment revealed.
Mrs Justice King also referred to scenes where Alfie's father Dennis appeared in public wearing a devil mask referring reporters to publicist Max Clifford.
The youngsters were thrust into the spotlight four days after Chantelle gave birth in February.
Alfie, who lives with his mother Nicola, 43, in Eastbourne, told The Sun - when he believed he was the father - he 'thought it would be good to have a baby'.
The story renewed calls for better sex education in England, which has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in western Europe.
Both Richard Goodsell, 16, and 14-year-old Tyler Barker who live close to the Stedmans in Eastbourne, East Sussex, claimed paternity at the time.
It was also been suggested that there were another six potential fathers - although Chantelle, 15, was said to be distraught at the allegations.
Trainee chef Richard has said he had sex at least three times with Chantelle around the time she became pregnant.
'I know I could be the father,' he said.
'Everyone thinks I am. My friends all tell me that baby has my eyes - even my mum thinks so.'
Meanwhile, Tyler said: 'I slept with Chantelle about nine months ago and I'm really worried I could be the father. I hope it's not me.
'All my mates have been teasing me about it but this isn't funny, it's serious.'
Chantelle, her baby, her parents and five brothers and sisters fled from their council house in Eastbourne at the time.
A neighbour said the family had 'done a bunk' under cover of darkness. Alfie, at home with his mother, in Hailsham, kept in contact with Chantelle by phone.
